Hey,

I am new to this forum, but have been active on the fjcruiserforums.com fourm for about a year and have had my FJ for a year in July and have 20k miles on it already. I am trying to get more information on a light trail run in Cullowhee soon. I am tired to beating my FJ to hell in Uwharrie and other places and I'm looking for a more "mellow" ride where I can get some scenery and travel some distance. I found this recently on the FJ cruiser forums. See post #10 by k9crazy where a map is supplied.

How are the trails, what would I need. Can I take friend who have less capable 4wd's and promise them they arent going to break anything? I am really just trying to get an idea of what I'm getting myself into. Any local information on how to get there and entrances and exits would be greatly appreciated

I can't share too much on the specifics, and I suspect you need to get this in email, etc since publishing things like this on the internet is always interesting...many times people find the info we post for you and run rampant and destroy a place.

I am sure we can help you out.

I would NEVER promise anyone that they won't break/get damage. If they want to go, they run a risk, no matter what. That said, these are mild trails.

Seek and you will find. Or join us next time we go and know first hand. There is plenty of info that has been published in this section for a beginner to figure out the trails. As a word of caution not all trails are designed for stock vehicles. When it gets wet it is a lot more difficult. Damage can and usually happens to one of the vehicles on this trip. Pinstriping is unavoidable. Is usually good idea to go with someone who knows the trails or has scouted the area out.

for the most part the trails are rather staight forward and nothing your FJ couldn't handle with ease...............

the biggest problem to Cullowhee is none of the trails are marked at all and are near impossible to find if you haven't been there before. I would highly suggest going with someone who knows the area as many of the trails are dead ends as well.

With all that said Cullowhee is a BEAUTIFUL area and one of my favorite places to wheel, I hope that you get the chance to see it soon!!

well all the info has been posted before.... try searching for for cullowhee , expedition, scouting trip, etc. It would definately be best to join us, or at least someone whos familiar w/ the trail systems. Ive been going up there for almost ten years and while no more than 3-4 times a year it still gets a little confusing at times and there are tons of trails yet to be explored. but do be considerate of who you share the info with..... its only SO NICE for a reason.;)

Thanks for the info guys, is anybody planning a trip anytime soon? I'll do a search tomorrow while im at work to see what kind of info I can find.

Fall colors + that ride = heaven on earth. Worth the wait.

I agree with the above statements. I love that place soooo much that i really hate sharing the secret with anyone. I know that the secret is out now and the rover guys have club runs up there and i'm sure other wheelers are finding out about the area.

But please, if you go, keep to good trail ediquet (sp?). Pick up your trash and pack it out, stay on the trail and please no busted glass. My dog had to get surgery on his foot from the last trip where he cut it wide open on someone's discarded beer bottle.

That sucks, I'm a big fan of Tread Lightly. I hope to join you guys for the run in Oct.

Cullowhee is a very nice place. It was the first place I went w/ UC and I loved it. Here is my two cents...tread lightly, keep to obvious trails and if you don't have to throw mud please don't...its beautiful and lets keep it that way. Some club trail maintenance might not be a bad idea either.

I think the first step in trail maintenance will be to meet with a Ranger...I've talked about doing this before but I'll head it up if someone can give me a contact and UC approves...
