Ok Guys and Gals, it is that time of the year, the leaves are changing, it is cool and crisp (up here at least) and football is in full swing. That can only mean one thing!!! Our annual Pisgah to Mitchell ride!!! So we will be doing this Oct. 14-16 but the actual ride will be on the 15th. The festivities (if you are so inclined) will begin on the evening of the 14th when a group is heading back to Black Balsam off of Ivestor Gap Rd to camp (it is the road on the right just past Graveyard Fields overlook on the BRP). Last year they had a great time, or so I am told and liked it so much that they are returning this year (minus some roof top tents). The ride itself will start at the Pisgah Inn Pisgah Inn, North Carolina - The Peak of the Parkway where we will have breakfast kinda sorta food, and we will then trek the 50 or so miles via the BRP to Mt. Mitchell (highest point east of the Mississippi) for some cooler weather and hanging out time. Afterwards there is a group that will most likely camp either at Crabtree Meadows campground or some other holler up there. Any ways, it has always been a signature UC event, and even though no wheeling is involved it always proves to be a good time. We should plan on being up at Mt. Pisgah by 9am and the ride will leave no later than 10:30 and we will saunter gently on over to Mt. Mitchell with plenty of photo ops available. So come on out, and have a good time!!!

don't upset the kiddys....the wheeling into/out of black balsam is about as much as some of us can handle!

That beat me to death in my 40.

Prepare for lots of trail pinstripes!

Iv'e been wanting to do this for the past 4 years. Is it near Boone?

You can keep going up the parkway about an hour past mitchell and you'll be in boone, so in relative terms it is close.

According to our news report the fall foliage is supposed to be at peak early to mid October, so we may get a pretty good show!

Hoping to make this one. This one kid friendly? My kids are asking me after Aubrey came back from the last trip.

quite the delima there my friend, but nothing beats camping on Black Balsam and you can sell those tickets for way more than the camping will cost. So it would be a win-win:grinpimp:

I'll be there....bringing the wife and kids so it'll just be for the day.....I brought Henley camping last month up there and he loved it.....lots of trails to hike around with your kids.....they'll love it

lots of trails up there to CARRY your small children lol

Hope you guys have a blast

the wife is 5 weeks away from her due date today so no going anywhere without cell reception/more than an hour away from her until the baby comes.

But after Nov 2nd i promised my daughter we'd go camping and she hopes for snow.

I'm guessing the park closes once the parkway is closed.

The parkway usually is open until the first hint of bad weather up high, but roads like 276 or 215 are open year round so access can be had for a long walk...

I'm in if

my rebuilt carb gets back from MarksOffroad in time.:hhmm:

Do you expect the Balsam trail to be below freezing for this camping trip? Trying to decide if I should come up with a neighbor and our sons that are 5.

Josie went last year and she was 4. She had no problems and it got down below freezing that night.

It is too far out to say for one way or another..... check out this guys webiste(Ray's Weather Center - Beech Mountain - averyweather.com) as time gets closer his forecast for Beech mountain will give you a good idea of what to expect for the conditions on Black Balsam.

But lets hope for sunny, cool, and crisp:beer:
