There's also another little surprize to be added to my stable but that's still a week or so away...

Yeah - let's hear a little more about this stable addition... :steer:

Han and I are cleared hot for those days off from work. Still looking at the trails - may get on some of the easier ones the first day to get the feel of the 80, as well as getting Han behind the wheel on some of the easier trails/sections. I let you know what trails we'll be running once registered. Open to advice if you've been on the trails before....

Evan - plan on leaving tues or wed? Right now were planning on Wed if you want to convoy up.

Keith -

Sounds like a good plan. I would certainly suggest starting out with easy trails. The slickrock is very different from anything that we have in NM, and it would be good to get a feel for your truck before getting too hard core, especially given that you will have all new suspension.

I will likely be heading up early Wednesday - leaving town maybe 7:30 AM or so. That will allow a fairly leisurely drive (typically 6 - 6.5 hours of driving time) and a break for lunch, and allow a little extra time in case of road construction or other problems. The truck inspection is typically open only until 5:00, so it's good to roll in by 3:00 or 3:30 to allow time for that and to check out all the cool trucks afterward. We usually have a convoy going up on Wednesday and you would be welcome to join in.

I think Jon wil be going up on Tuesday for the overnight run (Tues. night into Wednesday). You might consider that one if you've got the time. Other runs to think about - Fins & Things is a blast and a great one to get the feel for slickrock. Any other trail suggestions for Keith?

For the first and only time I went with you guys in Oct., despite skipping a few obastacles I didn't think they were too bad. Fins and things, Porcupine Rim (of course don't turn left as I was reminded a few times), Poison spider and Hell's Revenge right.

I am planning to go and will probably join the Wednesday morning group.

Keith,
Those look like a good trail selection. I have not been on Wipe Out or Cliff Hanger. They will probably be in my selections for this year.

I am thinking about Behind the Rocks this year but don't see anyone else requesting that one.

Just made the reservation at the Bowen. Looks like they still had plenty of rooms left - as well as a few other hotels in town.

I just hung up with the KOA in Moab. They have 4" of snow on the ground, and it's still snowing.

You never can tell what the weather will be like in Moab this tme of year!

By the way, I'm still waiting on final trail assignments - should be soon, I hope. For anyone who sees them, please post up when you get yours, so we know they're on the way.

No one else is requesting that trail? Wow, I thought that was a popular over nighter trail. That's a bummer.

No need to overnight on behind the rocks (3/4 day trip), but it does have some nice large cave areas that would be nice to stay in.

I'm trying to swap to come up on Thursday or Friday to hang and do my own runs with the family. Hope I get a few days off.

Ginger was up last weekend with the girls and enjoyed it. Wheeled a little and the ladies all felt tough in their Lexus.

Hey Graham -

Hope you can make it to Moab. It would be good to see you and the family. I hope all goes well for you lately?

By the way, the Bowen Motel (middle of town on Main Street) is where most of us will be. Mike M, Ellen and I, and Keith and his wife Han will all be staying there. Jon may be at the KOA again, and he's also doing the overnight run on Wednesday/Thursday.

Keep us posted if you can make it.

Trail Assignments!

I got my e-mail with trail assignments a few minutes ago. :steer:

Those were my first choices all around. Looking forward to it!

Anybody else?

Evan

At the KOA. Not doing overnight. I was bumped. Going up early Wednesday morning.

Bummer - I was hoping to hear more about the overnight, and I know you wanted to try it. What trails did you get?

Dang, I'm wheeling with Mike all days. I want a refund. :flipoff2:

FWIW,

My wife stayed at the Bowen Motel recently, she then went a block away to the Ramada. She said the bowen was rough and the ramada was awesome (recently renovated, better pool and hot tub). Same price for both places. I'd go for a switch if the Ramada has rooms to spare.

I might head to Moab this weekend with the ladies:princess:. Hope to see you all later.
