What do you need to know? I use to be a shop Forman at a high end stereo shop back in the 90s we installed them at the dealerships along with any aftermarket stuff.

Well. I'm 99.9% sure it's not stock. But would love to get more information if you have it.
  • Any idea who the manufacturer is?
  • What are the odds it's still functional?
  • Any chance you could point towards manuals or something?
  • Assuming this contraption goes with it ??

No idea who or what the manufacturer would be. Any type of manuals are long gone. Yes that goes with it the cable end goes to the throttle one vacuum line goes to a main vacuum port needs a tach signal should be the vacuum part a module in the cab and the stalk on the column.

Ok. Going to follow the cables and vacuum lines. Any idea who made them in the past? I may try to hunt down manuals on the interwebs.

The stalk was just hanging there, but opened the clam shell and tightened it down. I'd like to get it working or remove it all together.

@tmxmotorsports forgot to tag you. Thanks.

I’ve got a vacuum assisted cruise control as well but with a different control mechanism.

I pulled the vacuum for now, but will explore hooking it back up in the future.

Mine has a sensor type thing that reads the rear drive shaft, guessing yours does too.

Really simple mechanism.

Ok. Sounds like I'll need to do more exploring of the system.

Trying to remember who the manufacturer was back then. Pretty generic and never installed anything on the driveshaft. If I remember correctly power ground ignition power tach wire brake signal wire then the components that other plastic ball might go along with it.

It might be easier to install a new Rostra Universal kit vs resurrecting your old one

You would need all new components, but the universal kit is pretty straight forward to install. Quite a few of these being used on 70 series. An example of a one of their controllers, others are on the site:

I would recommend getting a new unit if your wanting cruise control no need messing with some old stuff if new is available.

You're both right. But if it only takes making sure a few things are connected, no need to start from scratch. At this point, it's more of a curiosity than a need. I think I will want it long term, but for now it's not a deal breaker.

If the components are still functional I provided the common wiring you will need to check

I've got a similar unit on 1 of my 62 series, still works
whoever installed your unit put the stalk on the wrong side of the column, mine is on the left side and all the script is right side up.

it is not a stock item.

Yeah. It made me laugh. If I can get it to work, I will just make it work. If I switch to Rostra, I will get an actual right side stalk.

I've been reading up on these systems. Even if I can get it to "work", I'm sure it's designed for an automatic transmission. My truck was swapped to the H55F a couple of year ago and I'm doubtful I can figure out how to introduce a clutch safety switch into the old system. So, I'm going to remove it all together. If anyone wants the parts, I'll gladly send them if you pay shipping.

I have an electromechanical rather than vacuum aftermarket cruise control that I had installed when new in 1991, as @tmxmotorsports describes. I'm surprised to see the same basic unit is available today. My stalk is like yours, only left side. I doubt that vacuum models still exist. https://www.amazon.com/Rostra-250-1...ectromechanical+cruise+control,aps,160&sr=8-3

It's worked great over the years with the exception of the speed sensor needing to be replaced twice over the decades. as it is exposed to the elements. That can also still be replaced. https://www.amazon.com/250-4165-Mag...ectromechanical+cruise+control,aps,160&sr=8-3

Good luck.

Yeah. I've seen those systems. For now, I just need to purge it from the system and will decide on a solution later.

Hi, Years ago, I did have one on my older 5 speed and it never worked from day one. I ended up removing it and getting my money back.
