My cruise control passed all of the tests except when I pull up on the hand brake the cruise light stays illuminated. What does that mean? The BRAKE light comes on and the cruise light stays on. its a 97 40th anniversary

Did the deed. Ignition key in on position, engine not started; pulled lever down to Set THEN pushed the On button, double flashed and once I released, all flashing stopped. Turned key off, then back on, engine not started; pulled lever up to ACC position, THEN pushed the On button, triple flashes, and once I released, all flashing stopped. Turned key off, then back on, engine not started;pulled the lever toward me to Cancel THEN pushed the On, no flashing, just a solid light. Now what does this tell us?
Guys I have performed step 1 it works blinked 2 times , but step 2 where it says to push the lever to the acc position and press the on button I get no blinks .

Confused what to do

Just to verify you’ve doing steps 1 and 2 correctly: 1) begin with ignition switch off, 2) turn ignition switch on, 3) push CC level down (SET/COAST) position and hold it there, 4) push CC on switch, 5) observe two blinks of the indicator light, 6) move CC level to up (RES/ACC) position, 7) observe three blinks of the indicator light. If you’re still not getting three blinks in the up position then there is a problem with the CC switch or, possibly, the CC ECU. You can differentiate between the two by removing the switch and measuring some resistances, but the details on how to do that are for another post.

Also note that there are some differences in the cruise control system according to model year and, I have no doubt, world market. My 1997 USA FZJ80 can display more error codes than some earlier models, for example. And some threads assert that the ABS system is connected the the cruise control system while I know for a fact this is not the case with mine. Most threads about cruise control issues don’t specify what year vehicle they are talking about, so you need to be aware of possible differences.

Well I cleaned the speed sensor it's magnetic type for some strange reason it was immersed in water maybe water got in while cleaning at the service station , anyway after cleaning re installed and cc worked engaged so I was happy but then the next day same thing ..stoped working again , so I think the speed sensor is acting up .

Most common failure on a 93-97 is the actuator motor. In this case, many folks have found at least temporary relief by simply manually cycling the actuator arm several times, or by cleaning the unit (as you've done).

Does anyone have the Toyota part number for the '97 cruise control actuator and any other part numbers to replace the cruise control system with new factory parts?

Great thread! Thanks for the diagnostic details.

Hi, have you managed to fix your cruise control? I just ran through the diagnostic tests and I have similar results, also a 97 40th anniversary!
