I'll come too, once all your mountain bike trails clear of snow. I'll be back at the garage promptly at sunset every day for the beers part, too. Scout's honor.

Doug,
We have had NO snow this year. In fact if we don't get some moisture pretty soon there won't be any mountain biking, hiking, 4-wheeling, camping, or anything else in the NM National Forests this year. The fire danger is alreay at a HIGH level and we have little time left to get any rain or snow.

But you're also welcome to come help turn the wrenches and drink the beer. :D

BTW, I have the rack knob and plan to ship it out soon. Just need to get everything boxed up and get to the PO.

Just wanted to report that I did landtank's two O-ring fix and it has been leak free for 250 miles. Thanks for a very easy and effective solution.

Just fixed a leak at that thing a week ago.

So THAT's what that thing is!

I just fixed a leak at the sensor a week ago while changing the
oil. Put in Mobil 1 Trick & SUV 5w30. Have not driven much since
but it's still perfectly dry, so far.

I removed it, took the flanged O-ring out, wiped everything totaly
clean & dry with lacquer thinner (I think), specialy the groove.
Then applied a small amount of Permatex Ultra Grey RTV gasket
stuff. I used a toothpick and a cotton swab to get it in the groove
and the hole, and both sides of the O-ring.

If anyone finds a local source for these o-rings please pick up a few extra and send me a PM. There are a few places I can look locally but if I strike out I'll have wasted a few gallons of gas. Far cheaper for me to send a member a few extra bucks for their troubles.

Thanks Rick. I hope they have some.

Follow up: found the O-rings at my hardware store. Incidentally they are also commonly called a #11 and #14 O-ring. Install was quick and easy and I will be glad to have one less source of oil, dirt, and grime to deal with.

By the way my local store only had bulk packs of O-rings so I have the extra sets listed in the Classifieds: https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts...k-position-sensor-gasket-kit.html#post6845276

Are those metric O-rings? FWIW, when I had my main oil pan replaced at a dealer the mechanic slathered the old o-rings/sealing surfaces with FIPG. No leaks 1 1/2 years later.

I did that with mine when i sealed it up. Went with toyota FIPG.

No they are the standard sizes LT referenced but they have some type of standardized numbering system as well.

Are those metric O-rings?

BrassCraft-SC 0558 3/4" I.D. (15/16" O.D.) x 3/32" wall

BrassCraft-SC 0584 9/16" I.D. (3/4" O.D.) x 3/32" wall

Nope, they are inch. And FPIG is a high dollar repair comparably. Mine has been leak free for years now with the o-rings.

Agree FIPG is expensive. If I had done it myself I would have gone with the O-rings also.

true, but i had it on hand from other seals that were being done at the same time. So it was a no-brainer.

Does the oil need to drained to do this? I'm changing oil pump seal and front crankshaft seal right now so might as well get this one too.

Thanks

mac

I thought some might leak out but it sits up high enough that it was not a factor. The most time consuming part was finding the O-rings locally, followed by wiggling the skid plate out after it was unbolted. Definitely a :banana:job.
