Reminds me of the old days (1980s) when people would leave their ski racks on year round.
Or people who don't fold down their kayak racks when not in use.

#LookAtMe

That baby Heep... I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame. It had everything... sand ladders, awning, spare on the roof and of course that ladder. I drove down the next row hoping to see a high-lift bolted to the (plastic?) hood. No dice. :frown:

Gotta be a great time to be in the offroad accessories business.

BTW, there are three RTTs on the DC area CL right now.

This is my dad's (now mine) 1942 Ford GPW "Jeep" at a car show a few years ago. He had it outfitted as he remembered seeing them in Italy during WWII - lots of wine bottles. The older gentleman with the walker looked at the Jeep for a few minutes and then started to cry. It must have brought back some powerful memories.
This is what I drove (without all the stuff, just a bikini top) to high school everyday back in the early 70s.

Driver hopped out and went into whole foods. As if this could have been taken anywhere else.

I have no real standing on this subsection, but how about a dedicated thread for mocking Heeps?

this is a bit better? Maybe? Normally I’d post this in the spotted thread

Edit: just noticed the hemi badge...hmmm

I love the grenade attachment on the Carbine! So much other coolness there, too, along with a great story.

I was making a deal for a '45 and '46 Jeep with a local farmer during my freshman year in college. Asked the admin if I could have 2 extra parking spots in my dorm's lot for the remaining year since there was about 30% not being used. They told me no, and I knew nobody local at the time and there were no such things as storage units within 30 miles back then. Had to back out of the deal, sadly. I didn't know crap about working on vehicles back then but I had a goal of getting one in shape to recreate a 1960's era Jeep for my father that would pass VA inspection. One more reason to hate my college. It hurt even worse around 6-7 years later when he told me he was thinking about getting an "Islander" Wrangler because it was close to Army green. That was only the second time I ever knew of him entertaining the purchase of a Jeep, the first being whatever they called their pickup in 1990.

Strange connection to these military jeep thoughts - I met a guy in college who's father had/probably-still-has one of the 4-wheel independent suspension military jeeps. Saw it for myself in the 90's. They were supposed to be so unstable that GOVCO destroyed them all...that's my recollection, at least.

The same guy had a Toyota pickup given to him brand new in 1990. I saw him last around 2013 and he said he had recently butchered it into a tubed crawler......after having less than 60k miles on it!

Yes, they were very unstable. I knew someone who got one before they stopped selling them. Initially, to keep them off the streets, their plan was to cut them in half and sell them as scrap metal but people were welding them back together, so they started crushing them.

M151 "Mutt" Military Utility Tactical Truck There was a company that was rebuilding them in Florida from 82 until the early 90's. I was told the DOT and the EPA shut them down. My dad had a CJ-2 that ran for years. When the engine died a 151 Iron duke got dropped in it and as far as I know it is still running as a farm use vehicle out in Stanley VA

That would be cool if you could get the wiring harness. Otherwise that would be a nightmare.
