Great story in all ways Ed!!!!This is my dad's (now mine) 1942 Ford GPW "Jeep" at a car show a few years ago. He had it outfitted as he remembered seeing them in Italy during WWII - lots of wine bottles. The older gentleman with the walker looked at the Jeep for a few minutes and then started to cry. It must have brought back some powerful memories.
This is what I drove (without all the stuff, just a bikini top) to high school everyday back in the early 70s.

Driver hopped out and went into whole foods. As if this could have been taken anywhere else.
I have no real standing on this subsection, but how about a dedicated thread for mocking Heeps?
I love the grenade attachment on the Carbine! So much other coolness there, too, along with a great story. This is my dad's (now mine) 1942 Ford GPW "Jeep" at a car show a few years ago.
Strange connection to these military jeep thoughts - I met a guy in college who's father had/probably-still-has one of the 4-wheel independent suspension military jeeps. Saw it for myself in the 90's. They were supposed to be so unstable that GOVCO destroyed them all...that's my recollection, at least.
The same guy had a Toyota pickup given to him brand new in 1990. I saw him last around 2013 and he said he had recently butchered it into a tubed crawler......after having less than 60k miles on it!
M151 "Mutt" Military Utility Tactical Truck There was a company that was rebuilding them in Florida from 82 until the early 90's. I was told the DOT and the EPA shut them down. My dad had a CJ-2 that ran for years. When the engine died a 151 Iron duke got dropped in it and as far as I know it is still running as a farm use vehicle out in Stanley VAYes, they were very unstable. I knew someone who got one before they stopped selling them. Initially, to keep them off the streets, their plan was to cut them in half and sell them as scrap metal but people were welding them back together, so they started crushing them.
The fact that they have to wear ear muffs... and they are sharing that in pictures![]()
