One of the things I noticed in the launch video was a picture in the background with 2 shaded vehicles. One looked like a 2 door, modern interpretation of the FJ Cruiser. The other looked like the Land Cruiser version of the Lexus TX. Anyone else notice that?

We can only hope. They should have pivoted to this long ago and kicked the LX to the curb. Still not convinced the LX makes the next refresh cycle.

I wouldn't be surprised, Lots of other nameplates are going this route and it seems to be reasonably successful (especially the Bronco. I see Bronco Sports EVERYWHERE).

The little silhouette is the FJ 2.0, however they decide to reincarnate that, and the larger silhouette will absolutely be a full EV.

I was wondering about this as well.

That right rearcross over designed vehicles has more ground clearance than the usual crossover.
Could it be an electric Land Cruiser cross over?

To be honest I would view that as diluting the Land Cruiser brand but what if this thing is an attempt at a
monocoque unibody Land Cruiser, something they probably have been wanting to do for a while but can't obviously with the current vehicles for numerous reasons.

The rear left is clearly the mini cruiser, but will it be referred to is a mini land cruiser, or just mini cruiser? Big difference.

If the US 250 LC sells really well, could they eventually slowly introduce other models and maybe bring in the 400 series and the 70 series clean sheet replacement ( if that ever happens in 10+ years?)
Could this be the start of what you guys have been dreaming off? All the cool LC's coming back to the US?

Lets see...

I sound like a broken record when I post, but there is an immense American market for a Jeep like vehicle. Jeeps and Broncos all over the place.

The 200 series failed, in terms of sales.

You'd think Toyota would figure this out. Hopefully they will.
They finally gave you the cheaper Land Cruiser you guys have been wanting.
They sell 300s for almost as cheap as the 250 they will sell in the US but for whatever reason they see that we may not know about they just found it easier to bring in the 250 at a cheaper price point. Also I think the body style of the 250 will attract more people than the more reserved and understated LC300 body style in the US market, (even if it was at the same price point) I may be wrong but that's what I feel anyway.

They already do that. Heavy duty, "light" duty and station wagon. Now could they add more to the mix? Sure. Land Cruiser is a group of vehicles it doesn't just belong to one single model.

A SWB would require a shortening of the TNGA-F platform. Is that feasible? I suppose so.

I think it starts to get pretty blurry with all the naming. In part because the Land Cruiser core brand value should ideally span to the truck as well. And the 70 series is the only LC with a truck. But if LC is a sub-brand like Wrangler or Bronco, it ends up in a weird spot where the Tacoma might be directly competing with a land cruiser truck. Not saying a LC250 or LC300 pickup wouldn't be a pretty great truck. Just doesn't necessarily fit all that well in the overall company vehicle profile. But it does work for a 3-4 vehile group. LC250 - LC4Runner(?) - FJ Cruiser - TJ Cruiser.

I'm also not sure it would be so great to have any of Toyota's smaller SUVs called Land Cruiser. Toyota doesn't seem to be interested in performance CUVs in terms of off-road use. The Rav4 TRD is a fine product. But it's a pretty big stretch for me to consider it a TRD Off-road category. I wouldn't put the Land Cruiser name on it. TBH I'm not sure I'd put the Land Cruiser name on the 4Runner either, but that's probably my limit point. However, Toyota has gotten sort close - the original Rav4 was called the "Funcruiser" in many markets. And it was marketed as a budget alternative to a LC90. Styling wise they were surprisingly similar looking back. So maybe the Cruiser name would expand. Land Cruiser. FunCruiser. FJ Cruiser. 4RCruiser. TacomaTRDoverlandtrailteamultimateCruiserpremium. - Like that.

The Chief Engineer has already indicated that there will be no SWB version of the 250/550.
Any idea if that was meaning no SWB GA-F models or just no LC250? It would be a bit odd to have a 90 or 100" wheel base with a ~80" width. So, maybe a swb model would need to also be narrower to have the right proportions?

The CE only mentioned the 550 platform; educated assumption is that would include the 250 as well.

7x SWB will continue.

sad but also makes sense.
If they won't even put rear coils on the GRJ71 because they can't justify the costs they are not going to make a SWB 250. Though that would have been an amazing vehicle.

They probably thought this very through and ran the numbers because I know that the SWB 150 did have a small market in some countries but they probably couldn't justify it enough to sell it.

This video mentions some of the sub categories in the TNGA-F platform.

translation says ''F0 will be the platform - F1 will be the station wagon type - F2 is the light duty Land Cruiser''

F1 is for the station wagon ( Meaning LC300)
F2 is for the light duty range (LC250/Prado)

I am sure it goes into more detail than this I just don't understand Japanese and the YouTube translate only works so well...

start the video from
3 minute 40 to get to the part above ^

This dude came from Toyota's Robotics Engineering division to design the entire GA-F platform. o_Oo_O

Man, I wish they had proper subtitles on these videos.
That Land Cruiser YouTube channel has lots of good stuff but sadly a lot of the knowledge isn't translated.

I hope someone updates the LC books with new editions explaining the next generation of GA-F LC F1/F2 platforms in detail.

This is part 2

Though that would have been an amazing vehicle.

That’s getting to be a lot of woulda, shoulda, couldas? I love these guys who have all three: the LC FJ70, the 250 and the LC 300 in their market, and a couple of manual 100s , FJ70 and LC300 in the garage, being so glib. “Yeah shucks its kinda too bad, woulda been great, coulda been done, shoulda at least tried..”

They actually sold the 120 Prado SWB with a 1GR V6 ( GRJ125 )
It was an animal in the dunes and was also offered with a 6 speed manual transmission option in addition to the 5 speed auto.

SWB 150 (J155) Prado was never offered with the 1GR though.

and now when they finally make it good looking, no SWB at all.

Sometimes they do stupid decisions, that obviously cause the death of a product and then when the new gen comes they drop it because ''low sales'' when in reality it could have been a decent seller if it wasn't for the way they specced them.

Then again, it is easy for me to say what could have and what should have when I am sitting behind a screen. The bean counters win in the end.

This is why I like the 100 series so much, I rarely ever felt like oh what if....it just hit the spot from the get go.

Beato te Carissimo! Beato te.

I'm sure luck had nothing to do with it, but you have a nice stable of Landcruisers!

The 120 SWB must have been fun!
