Loud, Constant ABS pulsing, Very Annoying.

I tried it on a very mild dirt road downhill. Perhaps it was just that the hill was only mildly steep. I would much rather just use 1st gear in 4WD Lo then this feature. Is this normal. I don't see the attraction.

It is normal. It uses ATRAC and ABS to control wheel speed and overall vehicle descent. I have used it offroad on a nasty trail and it does work, but it overheated the brakes pretty badly (and quickly) and ATRAC didn't work again until it cooled down.

Yea it sounds nasty when engaged. I had it on my LR3 and never actually used it to go down hill. BUT, given where the activation button was on the center console my dog actually engaged it several times for me...let off the gas and that crunching-scraping noise. I with you. Low Range in first gear creeps pretty slow but maybe we loose ABS braking in low range. I think my 80 Series shuts off ABS when in low range. Not certain about the GX,come to think of it, and maybe that's why it has it. Maybe it's a good thing in certain hairy situations.

As I recall the Hill Assist makes the same noise. I really don't see why that's needed. It seems silly to me when left foot on the brake and right on the gas, when starting on a steep hill, works just fine. But, maybe there's a good reason for it too.

You are correct. ABS is disabled when you go to Low (as is VSC) so DAC is there to add it back in and uses ATRAC logic on wheel slip.

Well at least ABS is disengaged on the GX when in low. My 06 Tundra did not. That was dangerous. I can think of maybe 1 time I would have used DAC in the past. At least it's there if I want it.

Yeah, I tried it out and hated it. I would only use it in a very sketchy off-road situation. Always good to have an Ace up the sleeve even if it is the most horrible sounding Ace.

The 80 Series only disengages ABS if you connect the CDL wiring that is hidden in the back of the dash. As soon as I hit dirt I would hit that button and have no ABS in Hi or Lo.

Bummed to here that we have to be in Lo to disable the ABS on the GX. It's at high speeds off-road that you want the ABS off not low speeds. LAME!
