I have a column shifted three spd.
The linkage is currently frozen....im sure its the linkage and not the trans. There is no movement anywhere in the linkage train.
Im also pretty its frozen in that junction deally located above the steering box.
Iam not entirely sure of the motion that the column shift lever should be able to move through.
Can someone post a video cycling through all 4 gears, while parked?

Excellent. Next start some light percussion therapy on the joints to help free up the binding from corrosion. I would not try excessive pressure on the shift lever to break it loose.

Thats why i need to see what moves, where it moves and how much it moves...before i try to move something, that has already beeen moved.

Is it the same early fj40 in the build thread? that one has a different way of shifting than the later 3 on the tree ones. I think this is the transmission you have below correct? I would imagine the linkage would be different. I could be wrong though as I have never seen one of these in person. Super cool though!

Yes, the linkage connection to the tranny is different between the side-shifter and top shifter units, but the H-shift pattern at the column is the same for both. I can do a video as well once it quits pouring rain.

Yeah, I think you are the man for this job. I just realized mine is still unhooked because i need to finish one more linkage on my swap.

Pull back against the resistance of the shift rod spring and push upwards CCW - reverse
Pull back against the resistance of the shift rod spring and pull downwards to rotate the shift rod CW - 1st gear
Forward (the shift lever and rod will want to return to the forward position due to the spring if the system is functioning properly) and up CCW- 2nd gear
Forward and down CW- 3rd gear

Here’s a vid

Can’t help there, here’s all that’s left of the tranny side shifter setup that was in my rig. This pivot bellcrank could be frozen, where the column linkage connects to the linkage that goes to the side of the tranny. The vertical rod in the pic would be horizontal and connect to the nearest tranny shift lever. There should be another horizontal rod that connects to the rearward tranny shift lever (I think that’s the correct orientation).

This is the column shift bellcrank connection (what’s left of it) at the end of the steering column. It’s somewhat different than the top shifting setups, and are not interchangeable. Note the grease zirk, so this pivot joint could also be frozen.

Hey @brian if the “junction deally” you show and mention in your first post is frozen and un-freezable (just made up that word 😂) I have the one and the column remnants in my last pic above collecting dust on a shelf. It rotates but not sure of full functionality, if you need a replacement ‘option.’
