ok so up until this point Ive been set on going with freeborn red... I purchased the single stage acrylic enamel...and the "palnter" effed it all up and wasted enough paint that I need to get a whole new amount...

SO Ive decided to go with a base coat clear coat....

Still hadnt considered any other colors other than 309 freeborn red....

But I started to think about it...and since my rig isnt "restored" to "origional" specs by any means (see my buildup thread) I dont feel that going with a non origonal color will effect my value..

what do you guys think?

will it effect value?

but most importatly what color do you think would be nice?

Just for the record I REALLY like Uno's burnt orange color...

Smurf Blue Baby!! C'mon, everyone's doing it...

im going with a burnt/ rusty orange color when i get to painting my 71, maybe in the fall. doing searches lately for orange doesnt bring up many examples. right now its white, was smurf blue. already had that color on another vehicle. i like the orange, maybe with some black worked in here and there.

This pic was helpful to me, I like desert tan or pine green something that fits into the area you wheel in.

I am going to paint my FJ the same color as the Suburban Gorilla as seen on Spike TV's Xtreme 4x4. You can get it from House of Kolor. It is a pewter/silver/charcol, like the ICON FJ40 but a touch lighter.

Whatever you do don't buy the single stage paint....regardless of brand---it sucks. After a few short years in the Colorado sun you will see major fading, swril marks, etc.

Sorry to lecture, but you've got a nice truck you should paint it right. Buy the paint yourself (I did) and give it to the body shop to paint on. It will cost more in labor and materaials, but in terms of PAINT you get what you pay for.

I would suggest getting a self etching primer (on bare metal) a urithanne primer, the base coat (paint), then clear coat. You'll be much more satisified witht the pait job eventhough it will hurt your wallet. Buy the good stuff and do the job right. You'll be happy you did because you'll get a truck that will be the envy of the neighborhood.

You've come this far, you should do it right. BTW, don't copy me :)

Late,

UNO

I remember when I was looking through paint books before I went with my cruiser's original Horizontal Blue, I really wanted to do Tangiers Orange. It's an older Land Rover color, think they used it on the Discos in the late 90's or early 00's.

If you aren't planning on doing a full resto on your truck, I really doubt painting it a different color other then factory is going to hurt you that bad. The only reason I went with my factory color was unusualness of it. In fact, all my coworkers keep calling it robbins egg blue......

So does Horizontal Blue fall under the smurf blue catagory?

I must repeat....Don't buy single stage paint. You'll be disappointed.
