Want to know where you mount the box to. and whats a good spot for the mic to live. was thinking off where the radio went. and just make a plate.

Its up to you and your sense of forethought. Mine is in the glove box with the hand held portion coming from under the dash.

ya. I just want to see where else people mounted and give me ideas. setting this this thing is kind of killing me. i dont know how.

Tuning is independant of where you mount the box.

That sounds like a plan. You could even put the mic clip on the plate. That way it would be easy for driver or co-pilot to reach.

Two stainless screws into the original console, with a magnetic hanger on the ashtray works fine too.

One solution. The box is mounted to the left of the defrost hose in photo 2.

where you guys mounting the box at?

You can see where I mounted it in the photo above your post. Bright square of metal mounted to the firewall that is visually to the left of the driver's side defrost hose and visually below the steering column. I attached it to the firewall using 3M VHB double sided tape. It has been there for over 5 years.

I mounted the power unit on a bracket I made behind a coverplate in the dash.

The handheld unit is mounted on the front of the tuffy.

i see. I found a 10 mm bolt and just mount it there. its on the fire wall. its sounds better but hopefully when I get out to the open it sounds better. I have a energy poll and garage/house all around me. so that maybe why im not able to here clear?

I have the box mounted in the tool box under the driver seat; there's already an amplifier there

sorry for this hijack but since you all got this CB, I thought you might be able to help:

my handset is getting progressively worse on the input side, I can hardly hear anything anymore, get a lot of static; to reduce the static, I would have to crank up the squelch to where I don't get any signal anymore

however, outgoing messages are received fine by other parties

anybody have an idea where I should start to hunt this down?

I remember reading somewhere that there is some kinda wax/overlay inside the unit that melts or shifts somehow in the heat, exposing some contacts/wiring. That may be your problem. You may want to contact Cobra.

Thanks, Dan

thanks, I've opened it once before to glue the little dust screen back on to the microphone grille

might have to go in there again

Agreed. Mine will only key-up after it's warmed up.

I like the "package" but the quality sucks.

I have an external speaker hooked up to mine Claudia. I suggest you do the same. It is a vast improvement.

I still haven't had time to fix it. I was thinking it was to low. its mount around my rear tell lights and its like the same higth has my roll cage? you think thats a problem?

edit. I just went to go see its a bit lower then the cage about 6 or more ins

Specifically, what about the quality do you think sucks? I was planning on using one of these mounted in my tuffy box. Any widsom would be appreciated. I had planned on mounting an external speaker overhead. Thanks, Eric
