This is what I did using some 14ga steel I had laying around. Steel Bumper Cap

I have only towed around 1200# with mine so not much of a test.

I have more detail in my build thread but thought I would put here what the new CO hinge looks like. Much beffier than there original design including 3/8” steel.

Sorry, I hope you don't think the tire carrier is CO's, it is my creation.

To clarify, I was only posting in comparison to what CO had for their original design. I had a problem with long arm having loaded a tire plus two full Jerry cans.

My comments were not intended to compare against what others did for their custom swimgarms.

Has anyone paid to have this welded by a pro? What's the going rate?

I can’t imagine it is worth it. I am a pro welder and it took a while. It was on and off but I probably put in about 6 solid hours of welding in and then a few hours of grinding. You should stitch weld to keep from warping which takes a lot of time. That is with a Mig. Tig welding takes longer but it is the same stitching process. Less cleanup though so it probably equals out. Same result. $50 an hour is a good rate. But it could be anywhere from that to $100 hr. So you could be looking at a ten hour job. And if I think about it, it would be hard to do that in one whole long day. But it could be done. Part of the process requires mounting to the vehicle then removing it too. It takes some patience.

I agree with @toadshade. I am not a pro welder though. The cost of having someone weld it would offset any cost savings of buying a kit like this. When I did mine, it took a few hours on a few days to complete. I welded some, then let everything cool off, then repeat. And the grinding was never ending on the MIG bumper (front). TIG (rear) took tons less grinding but more time welding.

Now, if you were considering getting a welder then for the cost of a completed bumper, you will have something you did yourself AND a welder for other projects

All depends on where you're at, and the market around you. For me, here in spokane, there's really only one fab shop that would do it, so guarantee it's going to be closer to the $100 an hr rate (if not higher)... more shops, more competition, lower price.

also depends on how busy the shop is, and how they feel about welding up someone else's bumper vs building one of theirs. I know a shop in colorado told me to go pound sand when I asked if they'd weld on some sliders I bought from another place... since they made sliders for my rig.

Excellent suggestion. Just don't think you will get it done in a few hours for your first piece of work. And even though the kit is very well done, you better know what you are doing or you are going to be trying to bolt a potato chip to your rig.

Can anyone share the measurements for the bumper trim required for the Coastal rear? I’m all welded up, currently getting coated, but going to pick it up and install the night before I leave for a long trip. Thinking I can speed things up by trimming now. Any pics or measurements you have would be much appreciated.

If you are talking about the trim pieces to cover the gaps between the bumper and the body, it would be more of a template than a measurement.

Make your own out of steel

bumping this up. Final stages of getting my bumper done. Quite the process. I’m trying to figure out what winches fit in this thing. I bought a Badlands apex 12k. Didn‘t realize how huge that thing is (that’s what she said). I think I need to return it and get something smaller. Anybody out there have any recommendations. I’m thinking another Badlands but open to others.

I have a Smittybilt 10k on mine. it was tight due to the control box but that can be mounted elsewhere if you want. I had to notch the top of the bumper to clear the control box but it isnt visible with the hood down.

We had a Coastal Front Bumper. Yes, it is a very tight fit. I think we had to shim up or, shave off a little on the front.

Anyone upgrade the coastal swing out hinge to 4x innovations? Is it worth upgrading or the coastal hinge is sufficient?
