Date: Friday July 19th 2013
Time: 7:30pm
Location: GCLC camping area at Twin Grove Campground

Jim will select 3 CMCC particpants to line up their Cruisers to evaluate current & future repairs & modifications. Audience participation is encouraged as we consider the safety, ease and effectiveness of various techniques for fixing up this old Cruiser. The goal is to learn what is right (and occasionally wrong) and why. Jim C will moderate this group directed discussion, so bring your Cruiser for possible consideration and bring your ideas.

This sounds really cool and I hope it makes a big impact (benefit) to the participants.

As a side note, I bought my FJ60 years ago while at Ft. Knox KY from a member of the Buckeye Birfield Syndicate (TLCA Chapter Club in Ohio). The 60 was the club's "work truck" they used for tech instruction and hands-on "how-to". Despite the changes I've made (lift, tires, rust repair, paint) I suspect Jim C might recognize it if he saw it...too bad I'm not gonna be here for that!

Here's a picture from 2005 when I bought it.

Everone ready?
Anyone need enything?

Ready? Heck, it's still weeks away. Ask me again on the 16th. I haven't even started the Creampuff since last season.

lol, ready.

i gutted the 4runner interior, bj spacers still not installed nor diff drop kit, no winch wired up nor mounted, cool radio still not quite hooked up, no fancy cargo boxes for all my crap.

It has gas and runs though.

why you gotta worry me like this!

LOL!

This weeks the last week I have to get ready so I am jumping the gun!

All that extra crap just slows you down!

I'm still in lobbying mode but I am trying to finish all my little projects in case I am going. Nothing that would stop me from going though. If anyone has any thoughts on how to get to the brake line bracket bolt on the inside frame rail on the drivers side near the fuel tank, let me know. I feel like I dodged a bullet not having that 3rd U bolt on my DS slider at GSMTR but it was more mud than rocks. Rather get it on before CMCC.

Patrick,
From a quick search in the 80 section, it looks like the brake lines pop out of a plastic clip(?) I remember looking at your mount but don't remember a clip style retainer. if you can either loosen the bolt or pop them out of the clip (if it is indeed a clip) then put the ubolt on forward of the tank and slide it back. It also seemed like the idea was to mount the rear first then work forward.

Otherwise, could you use 2 strips of 1/4" aluminum or steel above and below the brake line to bridge the ubolt over them and prevent them from crushing?

Maybe take a picture of the brake mount and post it so we can arm chair quarterback it?

Thanks Stump. I need to look at it again myself but I believe every other clip is bolted to the frame and the rest are just popped in to the frame. This specific brake line bracket is bolted. I'll look at it again tomorrow and post something up. It is hard to believe that the only want to get this U bolt in is to drop the gas tank to gain access to that bracket bolt.

There's always a way ;). No one mentions dropping the tank. I have some ratcheting combo wrenches that may be able to slide in there and undo that bolt. Or can a 1/4" ratchet with a short 10mm fit in between to undo the bolt? I wish I still had my LX450 (for many reasons) so I could check it out myself here.

Here's the bracket location and the second pic is the same type of bracket but on a different part of the frame.

Just picked up my 40 from Ryan B, he did a great job on it and i'm very happy. I would recommend his services to anyone. New clutch, seals, new wheels and tires. No more body lift. I'm mostly ready for CMCC, just need to order a cb mic on amazon since someone in the neighborhood stole mine...not sure what they need it for...
