It is possible I got carried away :D Decided to take the carpets to get them professionally cleaned which I have been meaning to do since I bought it because the floor was heavily soiled in places. While I am at it the passenger seat is due for a repanelling.

that's not rust on the bed by the way, just traces of undercoat but I did find rust in and around the seat belt bolt mounts which is a bit disturbing. Seems like they must admit water somehow. the bolts were rusty and on a couple I have surface rust around them inside the truck. Does anyone know how to seal them better? I am thinking of putting some marine caulk on the threads when I put it back together.

have you ever heard of a detail shop? They can clean the carpets IN the car ;)

Or you can rent a carpet cleaner and when your done, do the stairs in your house!

Man if I was to go that far there'd better be a big box from New Mexico in the waiting, go for the inmistakable "new carpet smell." But good on you, Semlin, I'm sure it'll be sweet when it's all put back clean. While you've got it out, think speaker wire.. power.. inverter stuff.. lighting.. all those things you wish you could do if it weren't for the carpet in the way.

maybe add some extra sound insulation and heat insulation on passenger side where cats are :)
And all that extra cable to back would be good 2

You didn't go far enough. First thing I did when I got mine was totally strip the interior, I think the only thing that didn't come out was the door panels. Clean the carpet yourself, just get spray foam cleaner, a brush and elbow grease....it's cheaper and you know you did it all.

Anyway, you can do like I did and go to Pep Boys ($20) buy the heat/sound shield and lay it down under the carpet. It really keeps the passengers seat much much cooler. I put it down throughout the floor, I've done it to all my cars and I don't really notice if it's much quieter but there's almost no heat that comes up.

Also think about running coax from the dash area to the rear. Never know when a CB might get added.

Also my 60 rusted real bad near the seat belts. I think the dis-similar metals and the high heat has something to do with it. Perhaps some POR-15 and some black goo to seal up the holes well and keep off the oxygen.

Might as well Dynamat the whole thing while it's out-- you'll be Lexus quiet! Run extra wires front to back for any aux needs in the future... heck while you're at it, why not buy some more cargo tie-down anchors and run some bolts thru...

Sawsall the rear half of the wheel humps off and translate them aft 13 cm . Fill in the gap . Cut the front wells a bit bigger , and order up some Formverks flares form Iceland , and you've got an Arctic Cruiser . Don't forget to relocate the rear axle , and do a minor body lift while you're at it .

TY - *Still dreamin*

Riley that's a bit scary that you've seen that rust at the seatbelt anchors before on a 60. I am definitely going to get rid of all the rust, paint the areas and then use some kind of sealant to finish it off. That is the first trouble spot for rust I've seen on the truck (but I have never removed the roofrack :D ).

I am going to take the carpets to a drycleaner guy I know who has a special sanitizing carpet cleaning system. He will treat them repeatedly and then thoroughly dry them. A friend of mine did it to the most evil smelling and looking moldy old dodge caravan carpets you ever saw and they came out like brand new.

I'll look into soundproofing but as for cables it is actually pretty easy to run cables in the door sills and into the rear quarter panel and you can lift up the carpet as needed to do that.

semilin, i wouldn't say that's crazy. I did the same thing. Now when you start putting it all back together you know it's totally clean, all the spilt cokes and french fries are out, plus like you said now you can run new wiring or soundproof the rig much easier.
