Running rubicon this weekend...

Man, sounds like great time! Really hope you've got some pics to share. Fordice is on my bucket list and Rubicon is a blast.

Boots...
O was up there for a trail repair for webilt 4wd club, so I didn't get any pics except of the trail repair.
The little bit i had done was BEAUTIFUL!!

I'm curious to find out what the trail is like. I bet by the end of sept it'll be a highway..

Almost no snowpack this year and very little water to clean the trail out.

Rubicon or fordice??
I am SO STOKED to run rubicon again in this rig. I've been imagining it the whole time I've been building it as THAT TRAIL was what prompted me to BUILD her!!
I HOPE its all I imagined it will be.
Doing the packing for the trip, one thing that is ABUNDANTLY CLEAR is the fact that the storage space I have is not quite working!!
Roof rack will be key, possibly getting the fuel cans outta the back and on the swing out as ORIGINALLY planned and NEW and more COMPACT gear. We have the coleman flannel sleeping bags.... I realized that TWO of the more modern sleeping bags is the same size as ONE of those damn Coleman bags. However, they are EXTREMELY COMFY!! :)
Other thing is our camp stove... Even the new one just takes up so much space in the bin we have it in.... I'm gonna give the lil back pack single burner stove a try one trip this summer.

Here are a few pics o the repair I helped with!!
Great group to boot. Nice to meet more motivated wheelers!!

Pictures of Mattie from this weekend? I saw :princess: with a camera so I know you have them.

For some reason I can't pull em to the comp. To load em! :(

I also welded a 6 inch by quarter inch plate across the front frame were the radiator is. that took some frame flex out.

Dang rock stackers.
I know your kidding. That particular spot was bad off camber with a deep canyon on the down hill side and nothing but a dead tree to stop you if you went over. In this case rock stacking was a good thing. It had a pucker factor of 12 on a scale of 1 - 10.

LOL you should try out some of the local trails we have around here in Washington.
Rimrock area was coined Death wheeling by Petersons off road Mag.
Big knife ridges that have narrow off camber trails on top of them.
I am thinking a rock stacking wouldnt even help. :D

We've got the same situation at our favorite local BLM. Unfortunately it's not a very popular spot, so we're not likely to get that kind of manpower out to help us fix it. Pucker factor fa sho'.

So to follow up on this build now that I've been wheeling...
All the bugs have been worked out mechanically. She wheels like NOTHING I could have imagined. The motor is perfect IMO, the gearing I could not have asked for better, on Road handling and performance is great.... I am just SO PLEASED w EVERYTHING about this rig.
Though I have run into a few situations where the additional width has not been ideal, it makes the rig a TON more stable and imo has been an advantage overall I do sometimes have to take different lines, but ive settled into picking good lines for myself. Its just FUN to wheel and I have all the confidence in the world when I'm wheeling w/ her.
I plan on re doing the fuel cans... The way I have em they are a PITA and takes up a lot of space.
Wanna get a winch on there too.

Few pics from rubicon and fordyce.

You and the truck did an amazing job on Fordyce. Overall I'd say the extra width was much more of an asset than liability.

One thing, do you really have to grin that big when you fly by me on the highway?:flipoff2:

I personally really like the additional width the 60 series springs and axles provide.
Some of the spots where you and mark were getting tippey were not an issue for me. Youre right though, some of the lines you take are different for me. That WH 4 line that got the two of you up was one that wouldnt work for me. I knew that going into it cuz it was a tight line to begin with with your wheel base.
Also, WH 3...you guys were able to scoot around that big boulder to get lined up and I had to go over it...
You just can NOT imagine how NICE IT IS to do freeway speeds, so YES...I DO HAVE TO GRIN THAT BIG!!!!:bounce::bounce2:
Its a JOY coming from the Blotch rig. I do have to keep it down though cuz the MPG's suffer.
I averaged 11.3 MPG from fill up at cisco grove to the station by the house. Not too bad.

BTW...I have never run a trail where I could really see a NEED to run anything larger than a 35 in tire till THIS RUN! Maybe it was psychological, but I did really appreciate having just that little bit extra of the 37's especially in the water crossings.
I just dont see how someone would say that you could do that trail on 33's!!!
At least not comfortably.

I did it twice on those old bald ass TSL's I had, they measured 33", but it is a different trail now.

If FOFT doesn't get some help from all of us it is going to turn into a buggy only trail.
