Man; I wish I caught this thread right from the beginning. Well just started and got to the half doors. Really like them ! Great work overall !

Couple questions....Do yo need a new pinion nut when you pull the flange?
The reason I ask, is I re drilled the flange on the donor 60 axle that is currently under the rig. I have my locked 4.88 diff sitting in wait.
If I pull the flange off the 4.88 to replace it with the re drilled flange, will that mess anything up as far as the pinion depth etc?

You don't need a new nut, but be careful with just swapping that stuff out. If you had a solid spacer installed, then you should be good to go, if you had a crush sleeve installed with the new gears, then I wouldn't touch it. I would just drill the 4.88 flange (you should be able to do it with the third on the bench).

How would I know if it has a crush sleeve or not?
That would BLOW if I had to do it on the bench.
The other side of the coin is that when he built me a custom shaft for the blotch rig, he also had to re drill the original flange....so there MIGHT be some conflict with that.
Suppose I could call and ask him when he did when he did/ does the thirds and find out if it'd be okay to pull the flange?

Funny-The Napa that's about 300 yards from the hospital swore they knew nothing about them, never heard of them, didn't exist, etc. I asked to look in the blue bins behind the counter and found them in less than 15 seconds. They seriously had 4 bins of them, all different sizes. I think I told you I drill out the spring holes a bit and run the 7/16 pins.

7/16 Allen head cap screws from the normal hardware store make an excellent spring pin too.

Yes you did. However, I rreally didnt wanna F with drilling those springs anymore. That S U C K S!!! And it'd ruin the awesome rattlecan paint job I did on em.
Alas, Im hung up now waiting for the pins so I can finalize everything and get the rear end back together.

Did MUCH NEEDED "shop" clean up today after I welded in the x member and shackle bracket....
Then I took and cleaned the drum brake plate and painted them. For some reason I LOVE to clean these nasty old parts and make em pretty.

I have lurked. Recently I picked up a '76 with a 2f and Saginaw PS that's getting SOA, an Orion and 60-width axles, so I was looking for pics of Saginaw PS setups and outboard spring hangers and I ended up here. I'm probably skipping Deer Valley to work on it, so see you at S&T or Rubithon!

Waiting for parts. Specifically the lower shock mounts. I go the Sky off road pin mounts like I had on the blotch rig....I was gonna do something different, but those worked SO WELL, I thought it best not to compromise on something different.
Got a set of 12 in bilstiens for the rear, a grant steering wheel, had to flip the rear x member that the upper rear shock mounts hang on....Just cut it at each end and flipped it so the pins are facing the rear and re welded it. Some cleaning of parts, and painting...
Got the 60 series spring pins got those in, found that I drilled the WRONG LEAF and not the Mil. wrap leaf and is why the spring pack looked so bad when I flipped the mil. wrap to the front. So I re drilled that. Once I get the shock pins in, I can weld it, paint it and re assemble and move on to the front.

I am living vicariously through you. I would have loved to have done this to my 40s, but that's not going to happen now. I am looking forward to seeing you complete this. It's one thing taking it to someone to have built and quite another building it yourself. Not that there is anything wrong with having someone do it either. Looking forward to more posts.

Rear end in ALMOST back in and done...
Called Driveline service of Carson City (the guy who does my gear and drive shaft work) and Im gonna have him install a spacer in lieu of the crush sleeve that is currently in there and swap out the new flange for the drive shaft bolt pattern I have. So I need to do that before I can re assemble the rear end.

I hammered out the old wheel bearings and seal and replaced them. That was much easier than I thought it'd be.
This pic, I drilled holes in the retainer straps and cut tube spacers to protect the threads and make it purdy. Not that I needed to do this, but I did it on my last build more for piece of mind for not having the leafs pop over the OPEN retainer straps. Just a little more work.
