You're right on the evap for the first picture. That is the part that sucks the fumes from the canister into the engine. The hose going around the motor actually connects to said canister. It is a vacuum line, so just plug it. Don't know of the other ones, but I can take pics of my 5.3 if you like. Looks like the exact same setup.

edit - Just went out and looked behind my water pump and there is nothing between the head and the water pump. I have a bolt like you do in the head, but I'm using that for lifting the engine on the hoist.

Thanks for that info Satchel!
Just so happens that I went to PnP today and found an 00' 1500 and I was able to glean a bunch of answers from that....
The MISSING part behind the H2O pump is the EGR assembly.

Also scored a Taurus fan! it happened to be sitting ON TOP of a taurus. For safe measure, I picked up a t bird fan as well.
Seems that if I flip the taurus fan upside down it will fit damn near perfect on the 19x22 radiator I got. The thickness measurement is 4 in thick. All Id have to do is trim the shroud around the lower outlet and itd fit like it was made for it!

Dropping the motor tomorrow!!!!!!:bounce::bounce2:

SOOPER EXCITED!

One thing I COULD NOT find was a sag gear box!
CHRIST ON A BIKE is that motha hard to find. I went ALL AROUND the yard today, looked a NUMEROUS cars and trucks and could not find the 4.5 turn box!?!?!
Then again, my eye isnt trained that well for those either...

Guess that Ill hit NAPA for one.

What year engine do you have? My engine does not have EGR and I think all 5.3's after 02 don't, so you may not have the correct info there, but I can't remember what year yours is. One way to tell is that there should be a hole on the passenger side head for the egr to hook up to, or somewhere in that area. I have a 04 5.3 and I was told there was no egr on it, and I looked at other engines that did have it to know that mine shouldn't.

Vato Zone, 6529. Do it. Do it.

A couple teaser shots before he tells you what he got done today ;)

Yeup! the motor and trans are positioned and the motor mounts are tacked in place.

That is a BIG MOTOR to fit in a TIGHT SPACE.
We think that well have ample clearance for the sag gear box and steering after setting the motor off 1 in.
There is an issue with the radiator and mech fan. The outlet is a bit oversized, angled in toward the center of the radiator and causes the fan to hit it...SOOOOO, we took measurements and found that we could get an wider radiator, possible a smaller diameter outlet and be good!?!?! That has yet to be determined.
The AA mounts fit just about....GOOD!
Ended up having to cut some 1/2 in plate in order to maintain the alignment holes and NOT drill em out. After everyone left, I had the opportunity to kinda check stuff out before I tacked the mounts in and Im actually quite happy with how things are lined up. We ended up with a 4* pitch to the motor when all was said and done.
Im gonna have to chop out some of the PS fender skirt...little massaging here and there.
On negative....we were OFF about an 1/8th on an inch from one side to the other from square...considering how much work it took all of us to get it to that point...Im good with that!

Thanks to all the members in question for coming to help on this!
I could not have done it without you guyz!

Oh...BTW, I will end up having to kick the rear axle back, BUT...according to Rusty's measuremnts...the whole set up should fit okay!
Cant wait for that part!:bounce::bounce2:

Here are a few of the pics I and my wife got!

More of the install!
Last pic is of the DS tacked in and the clearance.
Not too bad!

Couple more...
The PS DOESNT have quite the space that the DS does.
The DS scab plate and mount
The PS scab and motor mount

A couple of the trans placement in the tub...
Ill most likely have to modify the trans hump some when the t cases go in!

Thanks again for the help today Gents!
I really appreciate the help, wisdom and extra EYE balls!

Satchel,
The motor is an 01, and the trans is an 02.
The exh. manifolds had the EGR port on it. Thinking I was gonna need an EGR to pass emissions, I picked one up. It fits...
The 00 I has seen had it in there, and that jogged my memory.
Ill need a block off plate for it now, and will also have to plug the EVAP as well if you know of anything for those?

I honestly have not looked into that stuff as of yet.

Those pics are great, especially the close-ups of the motor mounts! Very visible progress there, way to go! Can't wait to see some pics when you get the TC on the tranny and the relation to the rear axle.

Im CHOMPIN at the bit to get the SOA started and get at that rear axle placement! You can measure a 1000x, but until you get everything in place...
First things first...
I have the 19 spline t case still mated to the 4 speed, so I have to disassemble that, couple it with the 203 and complete the re build. Ive never done that, so I figure it will take a couple of solid weekends to do that. Once that is done and ON the set up, fab a x member and THEN the SOA and axle dance begins!

A couple of cans of oven cleaner will help with that t-case. Splitting the t-case from the trans can be tough, let me know if you need a hand.

I am a big fan of my variable rate saganaw box out of a TJ. 3.5 or 3.25 turn lock to lock, but it is slow in the middle like a 4 turn box.

SURE!
This is REALLY uncharted territory for me right now.
Ill probably START that process this weekend while Im on call.:crybaby:

Gotta bank roll this addiction some how!

I was of the impression that the 4.5 turn box is more desirable?
There was a 1980 grand wagoneer out at the PnP that had a 3.5 turn box...

BTW...sometimes those dick heads at Summit are DICK HEADS!
I returned the radiator I had and wanted to get a 24 in...The guy DID NOT wanna venture ANY FURTHER than...what make and model, or if I had a part number!
I had to PROD him to help me try and find something that would work. He got pissy with me about it...Am I mistaken, or isnt that their job!?

Ive had numerous encounters like that with them!

Rant over.
