Has anyone ran an all chevy drivetrain in a pig with the original offset differential? I was just wondering how a 350/th350 or 700r/ np205 would work, and what it would take to make it happen.
Thanks for any input.

I have a TH400 2wd in my 60 with an offset driveshaft. It was supposed to be temporary until I could scratch up the cash for a TH400/split case adapter, but it works great. It is a fairly long driveshaft with minimal flex requirements.

The best thing to do is to adapt the chevy trans to a cruiser transfer, adapt a 203 gearbox to a cruiser transfer (what I did in my pig) or center the rear axle using mini truck parts. The last is simple and cheap.

I did the whole advanced adapters NV4500 set up to take a late 80's Toyota split transfer case. It all seems to work great. I might have gone with a Dana 60, but my rig already had a 70 series full floater. Thought I would check it out for a while.

I'm really happy with my 350-NV4500-3sp Toyota Tcase setup. 2nd, 3rd, 4th in the NV4500 feel just like driving the stock 3-speed, you just get a granny low and an overdrive! Also, with the 350, there's no problem with 4th being too tall for hills.

Found a 73 chevy one ton with a 350/th400/np205 in it, any ideas on how to drop this set up in the piggy?

Pretty straight forward. I think I'd go with a centered rear using the mini truck axles. Fab up the mounts. Lokar shifter. A whole bunch of little stuff like throttle cables and exhaust that can all be found with the search button. Cooling is important. Some guys use a stock rad, I use an aluminum. Some guys use a stock fan, I use a Taurus electric. You NEED to use a good shroud.

Convert to power steering while you're in there if you haven't already.

Nope. The axle is further back in a 55 and the frame horns are shorter. It doesn't work to put a sag box in front of the crossmember. I used a regular sag box on the engine side of the corssmember and it works well for me, but a FJ60, minitruck or scout box is cleaner, each with their own drawbacks.

What ever happened to Morgan anyway? He kind of fell off the face of the earth?

Wow, that's weird. I would think that if you didn't know, nobody would. You guys are like best buds right?
BTW, thank you for doing that tech article. I went thru it over and over again before I tackled my conversion. It was my Scout power steering conversion bible!!

I noticed that he is still taking care of the birfiled.com list. I think his children are at the age where he feels obligated to spend more time with them than his pig. Which is to his credit! We will probably see him back in the mix down the road a bit. He still has all the parts for his 1 ton pig in his garage, but not together.

73 was'nt quite what was advertised. Found 3 86's with the 350/th400/np205 though. They also have the dana 60 front ends. Does anyone know how hard it is to cut and turn these for SOA, what spring perches to go with, and what type of steeringwould work on my pig?
Thanks for any info.

Steering: do a search on this site for Scout Saginaw conversion, or FJ60 steering conversion. Very similar mounting & setup. CardinalFang has a nice writeup somewhere out there.

Spring perches: Do another search (or check the Technical links at the top of the page) for "Dodge spring perch".

Cut/rotate a D60: I don't have any info, but it wouldn't hurt to do another search.

The search function is our friend ... ;)
