I tried searching

I have been calling them for a month and e-mailing with no response, hope the mudders have a quick answer

they offer several styles of switches, what will work in the 80 series (97)?

I sell these switches. The normal rocker type switch will require a little bit of cutting with a dremel tool for it to pop right in on a 97. I have these on my rig and I am happy with the switch.

nope, when I filed the dash enough to open it up to allow for the switch to seat against the surface it sits too deep in the faux wood grain to allow the switch to rock

Do the push button switches work any better? or even fit?

To clarify my issue the regular rockers will work just fine with a little dremmel/file work as noted before in the center console. I would like to utilize the three blanks to the left of the steering wheel by the mirror adjuster switch. In my 40th cruiser there is a faux wood applique over that area that is raised above the normal dash surface. The switch fits the opening but because of the depth of the applique the rocker hangs in a position not open or closed and cannot be toggled in either direction. Has anyone tried the push button switches in an 80 series? Do they fit the opening?

I don't have the wood grain, but I do have them in my 80. Two push buttons and one rocker. I do remember the rocker having a problem, but I'm not sure what I did to fix it. I do know I filed the dash opening to fit and then filed the switch down so it would sink into the opening flush, but that was for the push button ones. Iirc, the rocker is still kind of spanning the opening, if that makes sense. I'll look at it tomorrow and see if I can get a pic.

Upon closer inspection, my rocker is in crooked. Probably due to the rubber gasket that I didn't use on the other switches. It's basically touching (but still engages properly) the surrounding plastic. If I remove it, it should still work, but I don't think there is anyway it'll clear the faux wood trim.

Jake, thanks for the input!

That rocker style switch is a definite no go with the wood applique

Anybody have any input on the push button style CH4x4 switch?

The faux wood grain comes off. I'd recommend goo gone to clean up the glue afterwards. Unless you like plastic printed to look like wood.

I was finally able to reach someone at CH4x4 today

The push button switches will not work in the 80 series dash, too small and they push into the opening

The rocker style switches are the only switches that work on the 80 series.

I kinda like plastic printed to look like wood...

...I have an idea

Necro post...

I found these awhile ago but never bought them. I like them but from what I understand, I would have to do some filing in order for them to fit? Is this correct?

I find switches all over but not sure. What are the proper measurements and what is the Toyota part number for an fzj

The amount of filing necessary to make the switches fit the 80 series dash opening takes <5 minutes, it will be the same with any Carling style switch

Part number of the Toyota switch depends on which switch you are looking for.

If you decide to use the CH4x4 switches let me know. I have a bunch of them that wont work for me, I will make you a deal

I don't want to do any filing. Once you do thats it, you have to use aftermarket from now on

actually the hole I filed out to test fit the Carling style switch still holds a factory switch very snugly. Cant tell it was filed visually and it feels just as secure as any other switch location
