Greetings All!! I was wondering if anyone knew where to get the whole center arm assembly (including the housing) from anywhere but MAF. I ordered one from them, but they are out of stock and not sure when/if they are getting more. I would use a rebuild kit, but I kinda think my housing will is a little worn out. I haven't removed the center arm yet to look (this is my daily driver) so I wanted to be able to replace the whole unit for a quicker repair. I guess I could use a rebuild kit if someone could help me source the housing alone. I have checked CCOT,SOR,MAF,Rocky Mtn, and Mark's Off-Road. I can find rebuild kits and/or used center arms but I am hoping for an assembled unit. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any replies!!!

How about you tell us what month/year/make/model vehicle you are working on?

ummm...oops  how about this... 9/73 fj40 on all stock suspension. I was really hoping for some clairvoyance on this!! sheesh! :p

I am not aware of a new, complete, bolt-in affair offered by Toyota or any other vendor. I am sure that Mark at Marks Off Road would be happy to provide you something like that, but your best bet would be to call him and talk with him about it, as it is not something that is asked for/stocked as you are looking to get.

What exactly is your aversion to installing a new pivot and bushing service kit into your existing housing on your truck? It really is not that difficult of a procedure, and covered in the Factory Service Manual.

Sounds good Poser, I will give Mark a call and thanks for the replies! As far as why I want the "bolt on" unit, I really need to limit my downtime. I would hate to pull the thing apart only to find out I need more parts and have my only vehicle down while I wait for the rest of the parts. If I had something else to drive, I would really rather do the work myself but as it stands.....

Reply to John; thanks for the link, but I am not totally positive my housing is good

You're being silly, there is nothing inside the housing that is going to stress you out more than removing the housing itself. Given the stock condition of your cruiser, smart money says your housing is totally fine too. Stop burning your money.

I agree - the hardest part is probably getting the arm pulled off - not rebuilding the unit.

alrighty...so it is settled!! I will quit being a pansy, grab enough  for about 6 hours and have at it!!! thanks a lot all for pointing me in the right direction.

wow!! thanks a bunch! I hang around long enough, and I can just sit here drinking beer and eating popcorn and the thing will be fixed with this kind of response!

Gah! Unfortunately, this repair may have to take a backseat.... I just decided to check my oil and I found paste.......

So is there any oil reading on the dipstick or is it dry? Have you drained the pan, was there any oil in there, or metal?

sorry for the long delay...i originally tried replying the same night...but I failed..... (bad connection to site maybe) Anyway...to update the water in oil thing... it looks like I got all excited about nothing. I got it home and pulled the cap to inspect the top of the head using an inspection mirror and saw nothing unusual. I rechecked the dipstick and the oil is as black as ever. I believe that some condensation or water splash got into just the thread area of my filler cap and got me all wound up. I don't know what type of filler cap the PO put on it, but it is not the right one and it requires a little crossthreading to make it tighten up.

Thanks again! I'm off to order that center bushing repair kit!

Surely. It's a half day job including getting drunk.

Reminds me of the fellow that bought a repair kit from me and called me back after the weekend to complain about the lack of progress.

him-Mark, I hit that center arm for over an hour, but it wouldn't budge.

me-what did you hit it with?

him-a rubber mallet!

me [after almost passing out laughing] Mike, you need a BFH.

him- B. F. H.? OOOOOHHHHHHHH.:whoops:

Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters also sells center arm rebuild kits
