Someone stole my catalytic converter from my 1992 Toyota Truck out of my work parking lot today! I am glad they unbolted it and did not cut it out.

Toyota dealer wanted $800+ (not in stock). Napa had one left for $150. Installed the new one from Napa. Now I am going home for a beer and get ready for a backpack trip.

That sucks! I have heard of this happening. Just out of curiousity, where do you work? It's enough to make you want to booby-trap your truck.

Not to hijack the thread, but another similar anecdote. My sister and her husband were at Rio 24 for a movie a few years ago. When they came out, they started their Tahoe and put it in "drive" but the truck wouldn't move. They didn't think to look under their truck and had it towed to the shop. It turns out someone had stolen their rear driveshaft! D**m crooks! :bang:

Work near Rio Grande and I-40. Small parking lot. It would probably take one person no more than 30 second to unbolt. Two people 20 sec.

No hijack at all, hope this thread will make us more aware of our surroundings as we wonder through parking lots.

Bring it over. I'll put a couple of tack welds between the flanges to make it harder next time.

LOL, next time it'll be a sawzall :crybaby:

It's amazing what a bad economy will lead people to do...

Yes it is.

Almost more amazing what some people DON'T do. Today, at a junkyard no less, Bad Mojo and I spotted a cat just sitting on the ground. I'm kind of amazed that a company that specializes in parting out vehicles doesn't pull those right away. ESPECIALLY once it's off of a vehicle, and not immediately easy to tell what vehicle it belongs to.

I get a cozy warm feeling knowing that I don't have a cat, and will hopefully never own a vehicle that does (unless the HDJ-81 or -105 have them, in which case I change my position on cats entirely).

And I have an FJ60 cat (and I think a Porsche 911 one, too) that I can't seem to even give away. It seems to be market-driven (duh) because I know in Cali the stuff goes for a premium, even to just scavenge the platinum. Since *most* of NM does not have emissions control I bet these things are lying all over place because it's too expensive to ship somewhere that has high demand.

Maybe someone with the same model truck as yours had one fall apart and couldn't pass emissions so they stole yours instead of paying the $150 bucks for a new one.

How much platinum or other valuable materials are in a c.c.?

Same kind of dirtbag who'll whine and say it's not fair when they get ticketed for no liability insurance coverage.
