It's a 93 with 119k on it. After I turn the engine off and get out of the 80, the cat makes all sorts of crackling and ticking noises. Even after a short 4 mile trip.

Is this normal? An age thing? Or perhaps a sign of something not operating properly?

I noticed some weird noises after shutting off my cruiser the past few weeks.

I never did track it down. Cats would make sense (probably pawing at the door :slap:).

worn out muffler bearings :flipoff2:

It is normal...a cat gets MUCH hotter to do its job.

Heat up an electric stove to red hot and turn it off....same noises.

If it rattles when running you are in trouble.

Yeah I know why and how a cat works. It's just that all other vehicles I own now (4 of them) and everyone I remember driving in the past have never made this much noise.

Just think of it as though your truck loves you and purrs when you shut it off because it wants you to drive it more! :D

Mine does the same, always has. I think it is because it is mounted so far outboard and is up high (relative to a car), which puts it closer to ear level, and makes it easier to hear than on other cars I've had.
