Casner 2025 - September (19th -21st)

“It’s on like Donkey Kong!”
I received a permit to run Casner Trail #8 for the week of September 15 - 21.

For me, camping up on the rim is always the best part. Camping will be the nights of September 19th & 20th. The camping spot is near the east end of FR 231. Same place from 2022. GPS coordinates are: 34.97696, -111.79906.

The run up Casner Trail will be the morning of the 20th. We will meet at the Safeway in Sedona at 8:30 and head out at 9:00. Do NOT top off your tank in Sedona, it is a mistake. - Ask me how I know.

If you have not ever run Casner, it is very unique and a lot of fun. Read about it HERE.

As always, the run up #8 is limited to 10 vehicles (with a minimum of 3) but camping is available to anyone.

I think the Forest Service closed off the camping spot from 2022.

I think the Forest Service closed off the camping spot from 2022.
I have been looking for the closure map, but I cannot seem to find it. I will reach out to the Forest Service verify.
Thank you.

I’m in for camping and running the trail

Ok, I’ll bite. Why not top off in Sedona?
On two different occasions, I filled my 100 up in Sedona. About 3/4 of the way up the switchbacks, gas was boiling out of the gas tank via the filler tube. Needless to say, I did not do it again.
Not a very exciting story, sorry.

100 Series and LS swapped 80s will do that on a hot day or when loads are high and speeds are slow. When I had the 38 gallon tank in my 80, I filled up and took that back way to Crown King. I climbed a particularly steep climb and was alarmed to see an absolute geyser of gasoline spewing out of my filler neck cover. I mean gallons of it!

Bummed I'm going to be missing this! I'll be in Canada doing some conservation so unfortunately I can't make it.

My LS swapped 60 would do that before I installed my charcoal canister on a hot day. Instead of the filler tube it would leak at the rubber gasket on the fuel pump assembly.

With the CC installed it's better and will only leak if I overfill it on accident....

I’m interested but might not be in a Toyota. I’ll let the group decide if that rules me out.
We are an all inclusive group.
Plus, we we love to recover non-Toyota vehicles.

Hey now. I’m trying to ween off Toyotas to broaden my horizon. These types of comments keep me on the teat. Thanks, Brice. Let me sure up my plans before I commit to taking a coveted Casner run spot.

Please add me! Sound like and great time... Hold the camping tho...
HHmm on the gas note I have the 38 gallon extended tank and have done several trails in the heat and no boiling gas but I have heard it go "bong" a time or 2 guess maybe Im on borrowed time??

I’m in for the full meal deal. Trail and camping afterwards.

I am in for everything as well!

The "bong" is normal for a 60 series with the long range tanks, I'm sure its fine on other models too. Its nothing to be concerned about but it will catch you off guard!

Guess I'm not watching this section as much as I use too. Probably in for camping. Fifth generation 4Runner is gone. Would need to get new shocks with a couple inch lift and boot for a CV axle on the fourth generation 4Runner before taking it on Casner Mtn. Has finally been decided it's future after six years.

I just got my 40 some operational a/c and heating. if there is still room I would love to join the group.
