Hi all,

I'd like to try running Montana Mountain, Sat. 4/19/2025. I was thinking of doing it clockwise but not necessarily set in stone on that. Would like to meet up at the staging area by 8:30 and be on the trail by 9:00. I'll post the meet up coordinates when I have them in front of me. Some of the people at the meet last Friday seemed game so I hope to see you there.

Please post up if you think you can make it. It's a cools trail!

Directions (per Charlie Wells guidebook) 60 east to Queen Valley Rd. (0.2 miles east of mile marker 214) turn left and continue 1.6 miles to Hewitt Station Rd. FS 357. Turn right (northeast) and there is a staging area on the right shortly after turning onto Hewitt Station Rd.

Thanks,
Wes

I’m game. Clockwise sounds great.

The advantage of clockwise is that it puts you on the inside lane when on the shelf road. When I led this group ride a few years ago we did counterclockwise, which put us in some uncomfortable positions when encountering oncoming traffic. Be prepared with patience, as there are some traffic jams that can develop on this route.

Well, it looks like we'll have at least 3 trucks, which is really not a bad group size. If it looks like we're going to have more people I'll probably pre-run sometime during the week before as I haven't done this trail in quite awhile.

Given our clubs history with Montana Mountain I wish for you guys to have the best weather possible. Even on the Classic Cruize a couple of years ago the forecast called for cool sunny skies the whole day. Then as soon as we got half way down the switch backs it started to rain and at least 2 of us (me and Elvis ) didn't have functional wipers. Then of course as soon as we hit the parking lot it stopped raining. Being possibly the last nice weekend for a while, I'm in!

The staging area being the parking lot 100 yd off the road to the right by the railroad tracks? Is that correct?

Looks like we'll have a few trucks after all. See you guys Saturday and lets hope the weather forecast holds!

I added Charlie Wells directions to the first post.

Yes, that's what I remember.

If we’re going to use GMRS radios for this trip, I’d recommend we align on a CTCSS squelch code. @TheGrrrrr recommended that on a Box Canyon trip and it worked well.

Here’s more info about the codes and how to program them.

How about we all program three options ahead of time and we can decide at the driver meeting what to do:

- 15, code 15
- 16, code 16
- 17, code 17
