My 1976 FJ40 is in need of new carpets. I need them only for the
front, and would prefer something that covers the transmission tunnel.
Here's what I've found:
SOR $399
JT Outfitters $170 for 'standard,' $299 for 'deluxe'
Cruiser Solutions $399

Any feedback on any of these options? Any other kits out
there I should know about?

Thanks.

Carpet in a 40?

Yes, carpets go well with the A/C :p

Sorry, I cannot comment on the options you listed, but I recently had a quote from an upholsterer to fit custom carpets (in OEM colour) from front to back, including the rear wheel arches (as is standard in the LX) for just over AU$300. I'm guessing that you'd get an even cheaper deal in the US.

I got carpet mats from SOR; they used to have just mats for driver, passenger and the rear cargo area - I put el cheapo black plastic carpet from the hardware store underneath, and soundproofing matting - no way would I pay $400

it takes patience to cut the hardware store carpet into form, but it is not hard - 4 4'x6' mats cost me like $12 for the entire truck :hillbilly:

i went with the rubber mats CCOT sells about 5 years back (they were cheaper then) and i am very happy with them. they had a kit back then that covered the front and back. it had one large mat in front with a small one that fit under the drivers seat to completely cover the front floor (except under gas tank) and the same type of mat to cover the back floor area. first pic is my cruiser and second is from CCOT Floor Mats FJ40 and its the only pic i had handy showing any of the floor of the cruiser. i also added there insulation kit to to help keep the heat in the cab down. the rubber mat is pretty thick and has some insulation bonded to it too.

I bought a carpet set for my Pig from JT Outfitters. It took a long time to arrive, and the quality was not great.

I bought the carpet set from SOR for the 40, and I like it.

I installed SOR's molded mats front and rear, very heavy dark gray pvc, waterproof and great noise and heat insulator. Part# 345-471.

I'm thinking about carpet too, I plan on puttin a vintage ac unit in the cruiser before next summer. Think it would help with insulation and such. Keep the Cool in and the Hot out!!

But I wonder about sound dampner, I have bed liner in my 40, should I put it on top, or not worry about sound deadner?

SOR Kit

Okay kit, didn't do too much on the sound for me. Have the hard top so not too concerned about them getting wet and rust forming underneath. Wasn't overly impressed with what they were for the price. Form fitted yes, but not very thick.
