I could not leave well enough alone and tried to remove the screws holding the butterfly to the shaft. I was able to get them out and might even have enough threads left to put new ones back in. But these screws were staked into the shaft, so does anyone know how to reinstall these screws the right way?

My current plan is to find 2.5mm JIS screws and put them back in with permanent loctite- is there a problem doing that? Does anyone have a source for stock screws or should I just find some?

Not sure the trick to staking those screws. I imagine though, one could fab a tool to cradle the screw head and smash the leading end of the screw. I got some 2.5mm brass & stainless screws from McMaster-Carr. I would guess brass would be easier to stake.

There's also Loctite 277. Tested at 100% strength retention after 1000 hours in gasoline. Prolonged exposure to 150 F does affect holding strength. I guess I'll have to hustle up and get my manifolds installed so I can measure butterfly screw temps :hillbilly: My guess is 277 would be fine. http://www.loctite.sg/sea/content_data/93812_277EN.pdf

The safe route would be to send it to Mark's Offroad Enterprises

A spring-loaded center punch works well for staking the screws.;)

Mark, please post a link to the screws you purchased.

BTW, I meant to call you back on the butterfly stop; it is available. Make your list.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I tapped both holes to M3 and picked up some screws from the store. Used Loctite 271 since that's what I had.

It went back together fine and runs good. Exhaust is next...

Thanks again,

Dave
