I would have thought otherwise, but can't deny the results!

Agreed. I'd love to try 4.10 or 4.30. 4.88 felt too low for us and didn't survive the abuse it seemed.

As I understand it, 4.88 gears are only available in the aftermarket and it wouldn't be a surprise if they weren't as high quality. Physically they are smaller teeth with less contact area to put up with the loads and abuse

I think 4.1s might be something to try and are readily available from Toyotas inventory. To your point, really depends what speeds and engine RPM race pace works at. Better gearing should help get off the line faster.

Getting off the line is about 0.1% of a Baja 1000 race. Gearing has never been a reason we didn't finish a race, knock on wood.

What was the guessed mode of failure for the front differential?

Looks like something blew up the diff carrier?

Limit straps... they were not installed the same way we've always had them. Late night over sight. We all looked at them a dozen times and didn't notice. That allowed additional down travel, so much the CV's were binding and we think they cracked the housing. The ring and pinion, side and spider gears, bearings, etc didn't fail.

When it comes to mechanical failure in a Land Cruiser, it is generally some form of operator error, lack of maintenance or abuse.
Racing falls under "let's see if we can break it". :hillbilly:

Wrapping up the last of the prep work? Is the JAOS truck ready to head south as well?

Hope so :D

I'm at SEMA. I'll be back in SLC tomorrow to tag back in

Debating playing hookie from work and heading to Ensenada early am. Anyone want to join?

Am I missing 8155 on the tracking site?

I see 8188 (JAOS Truck), and the crazy Aussie Ironman in the class 11 bug (1155), but not Monica (

Monica is on the sidelines this year. We had a team member get injured yesterday and we are working through that and supporting our Jaos family.

What contingency incident?

It’s awful. You don’t need to find the video.

Someone driving a trophy truck through Tech blipped the throttle and was clearly not knowledgeable about stopping the vehicle.

Most people push through tech, but TT has spools so impossible to push around turn.

Needless to say, it pushed into a pair of cars ahead of it, and the people pushing them.
