I bought new OEM TPMS sensors and had Discount tire install them. When I picked up the truck, they handed me 2 “extra” sensors and said the package I gave them had 6 sensors and they installed 4 (I had already done the spare). The “extra” sensors are not Toyota OEM. I think they got parts and vehicles mixed up. I’m pretty sure I only have them 4 sensors.

It all appears to be working but I suspect I don’t have my Toyota sensors installed. Any way to tell w/o physically looking at them?

I can’t remember exactly what the live data looked like but there are more fields than just the ID and pressure. Temperature also, at least. Connecting techstream may give some insight. You could also try closely inspecting the valve stem for any very small differences in machining between your known good sensors and the installed ones. Don’t go on the external nut.. shops often just keep those lying around and reuse them.

I will say a couple major chain tire locations could not activate my PI sensors and I can imagine a tech just chucking in some old clones and programming them so they work, rather than admit they couldn’t figure out the ones you provided. Unfortunate, but that’s how some of these high-turnover shops roll.

Ultimately you may have to open the tire.. fortunately that is possible with a bottle jack and the rear of your rig, though a lot of work just to verify the labor you paid for was done.
