Can someone date this vin for me?

Trying to figure out what year this fj45 is any help would be appreciated. VIN# fj45-26464. Owner said it was a 1964 . I'm thinking its a 1967 . Let me know what you think. It is a remove able top longbed.

Gumby has got you covered, but just as a general note the LWB or LPB didn't start until '65 when it replaced the SWB. So regardless of the VIN there is no way it is a '64

I believe the long wheel started production in 64. Probably concidered 65 model but have seen states do goofy things like title by production date. That said in this case I would want to see the title stating it was a 64 and find out how a 66 production could be titled as a 64.

What is EPA certified? I have never heard that term used. Getting a title for something this early has been easy to do here in AZ. If you have ever title the vehicle in your name it's a bigger problem. But if you have never titled it there are a few options. None that include the EPA. I would think once it's title in any state with a clear title I would think transfering it to another state would be no problem. AZ goes back to 67 for the two counties that do emissions. Does any state go back earlier. Even CA moved up to 76.

I meant that the EPA certification is what drives model years on new cars. In order for a new car to get certified for sale in the US it must be EPA certified for emissions for that particular model year. The car makers can't call a car a 2015 yet because it can't be certified, but they can release a 2014 any time after 1/1/13.

75 model started 1/75. I had a friend who bought one of the first 75s in the country. I believe it was late January when he bought it. It had the 2F, later one piece doors and rear ambulance doors. If he would have know the about the new for 75 mustard color he probably would have waited and got one of those. He like my 68 so much he had to have one. He couldn't find a 74 for sale in AZ so as soon as the 75 showed up in Southern California he traveled over and bought one. 79 was also so another 1/79 model start date. But Mace says his 12/78 was a 79 model. The 74 and 78 were the longest model years but still didn't go into the next year.


I believe the 3/75 was the date the transfer case gearing switched from 2.31 low range to 1.99.

My 1964 FJ45 SWB has a VIN of FJ4521824 . There is a brass disc riveted to the VIN plate on the firewall stamped "66". Apparently, as another poster stated, the year of production often pre-dated the year of importation by one or two years. SALE and titling could have been an additional year after that. Mine is a 1965, titled as a 1967.
