Hello, I'm new to this forum having joined in the hope that someone can help with my EDIC problem.

First of all, my Landcruiser is a BJ42 1984 model and I've driven her every day since I bought back in 1995.

A few months ago, after hitting a particularly big pothole, I noticed that the car would periodically lose power for just a second at a time. It seemed to happen when crossing over bumpy terrain. At the time I was never able to reproduce the problem when the vehicle was stationary.

Recently however, the problem did occur whilst I had to bonnet up and I noticed two things:
1) The power loss was being caused by the EDIC pulling the fuel shut off to "closed" and then re-opening it.
2) At the same, I can hear a strange electrical/mechanic crackling sound coming from the glove box area.

Strangely, the problem seems to occur more on wet or hot days. Also, it happens more often when the car is in gear than when in neutral.

I understand that the EDIC uses a relay which is situated somewhere behind the glove box, but I am not sure how to locate it.

I'd appreciate if anyone can suggest any likely causes or steps to follow to diagnose this issue. Thanks in advance.

Turn on a whole bunch of electrical things at the same time like head lights, heater fan and wipers and see if you can reproduce the effect you described. Bad ground can cause the edic to act funny causing it to initiate a shut down pulse to the motor but not enough to actually kill the engine. This can sometimes manifest as a shutdown cycle every few seconds That goes over and over that has come to be known as the "funky chicken". The EDIC can also have issues in itself but more common to have ground issues.....hopefully. Clean up all of your ground connections and add dielectric grease.

Cleaning the EDIC connection can also help if cleaning the ground connections doesn't succeed. I use emery paler on tweezers gently and use a pin to apply the absolute tinyest amount if dielectric grease on the connection spades. Too much is a bad thing.

Scroll just past halfway down the page and you will see a good description (fuel control relay removal) of how to locate and remove the EDIC.
