What gear set are u ruining at present time? Are u good with that or plan to regear?

4.11s now

If I regear, it will be in the t-case. Not happening any time soon though.

I like the resonator....idea, I've considered adding one too. I've noticed the Tahoes and some other vehicles have them too, but most are made as part of the tail pipe on the new junk.

Totally worth it. I think every vehicle since the 90's have one.

Not sue of its mentioned earlier in the thread or not, is the 8" front diff the same driveshaft flange pattern as the FJ60 driveshaft? Thanks. And it looks real good.
You will love having a full floater for ease of maintainece.

It is not the same. I cross-referenced the CO link above with the bolt patterns on Marlin's site, and you can buy a flange that is drilled for both the 80 front and late-60 F/R, 62 F/R, 80 rear patterns.

My plan for now is to put the dual pattern flange on the diff, run my (cut down) 62 driveshaft and carry the long half of the 80 for a spare, since that is the end that is most likely to grenade. (If it does, it will likely take out my trans pan, so I'll be dead anyway.)

So can I just get a mini truck or 80 (front) driveshaft and use the slip yoke from that with my 85-87 FJ60 shaft? I'm planning on using 85-87 driveline lengths. Do you have a DC front or rear? It looks like with stock 80 front geometry you need a DC shaft.

I can confirm the 80 front will mate for sure.

A DC front would probably be required for high-speed 4WD. Hopefully it will work for slow speed once I do the CC plates.

I had it on the interstate (safety 3rd!) and didn't notice any vibes in the rear axle. It even drove & tracked straight when it wasn't try to dart around.

Planning on attending GSMTR ?

Honestly, I just want to see those FF hubs sticking out of the wheel :grinpimp:

You are working way, way, way to hard for just that. You don't even have that yet

Whats in consideration on the t-case side for gearing..... low gear set from AA? Marlin never got cranked back up on the "toybox" setup for the split case....did he? that would be a cool option. I'm about to hop back into 4.11 gears too and wondering about gear options at the transfer case as well.

there is a nice lower gear set offered by marlin for the t-case. I have been kind of reading and asking questions about it. To me, i think it's a win-win as it gives you the lower gearing needed when in low range but does not affect your highway cruising gearing.

When i spoke to marlin about it (actually someone on the phone at marlin) i asked if they ran out would they produce more and i was told that actually it's a gear that Toyota makes for another application and they found that it fit in the 80 t-case with just a little modification. When i spoke with Slee about it and having him install them for me he said that there is an issue with the t-case oil being pumped out of the breather hose and that so far the only fix is a longer breather hose. IMHO i am still on the fence about that. Seems by pushing the oil up the breather and extending it just allows the oil to sit further up the breather instead of keeping it in the case. So i'm on pause until i get some really good feedback that this is not an issue.

Georg built me a split case with the 4:1 AA gears which I run behind the H55 I swapped into my 80. The reduction is nice but probably more than I really need. The do pop out if gear on downhills once in a while but that might be an interference problem. I will say that they are loud.

I have a set of the Marlin gears to put in the Half Ass rig but can't seem to find the time to get it done. I know Woody has been running a set in his 80 and loves them. I don't think you could get a better endorsement than that.

.

Well, this steers me toward just regearing. The noise was a concern. The extra noise is always mentioned, but downplayed and brushed off as worth it. I'm already taking several steps to reduce noise (add resonator to exhaust, eventual switch to AT tires), so that will bug the crap out of me. I've found that I really need the higher end of low range more than I need to crawl in low range, so 4:1 is probably too much for me. I'll just let the auto tranny work.

It is a great solution though. And high range has a 10% underdrive, so it is like regearing and getting lower low range gears.

I want to install a set in the piggy case. I have heard good things on the Marlin gears from Mike Frisbee (LSLC) also.

Is this a pretty straight forward install process any shade tree guy can do?

Install is a breeze. You will need a press and a bearing splitter. Marlin has a good write up on it on his Tech Forum.

with respect to the low gear set for the 60 transfercase. I see on the AA web site a note about what they offer and the fact that in theirs...they state a 10% under drive. I don't see or can't find anything on the marlin web site about something similar. I assume we are talking about two different products? One being a Marlin sourced product and one being from AA, or not? Link to the marlin low gear set for 60 split case?

While it may sound stupid...I'm adverse to additional noise/gear whine tool

(for those with H55f)Re gearing at the axle side is not going offer a road friendly option unless up bump up tire size beyond 35's....from what I've noticed, screwing around with the gear calculators...on my truck which has the 5 speed with final gear ratio .845.

the 4L60E trans final ratio is .70, which gives you more latitude due to the better over drive ratio that is more suitable to the V8 engine. where I"m crunching numbers on ratios...4Lo.com :: Final Gear Ratio, Crawl Ratio, Tire Size Calculators

For factors I was looking at rpm guesstamation for hwy cruising speed at around 2200rpm in final gear...just looking at the pavement cruising speed in high gear.

As always I guess its hard to get a good hwy cruising speed and then have a reasonable off-road low range... the v8 power gives more range than the 2f had...so game changer obviously.
