Cam's FJ60 Gets a Heart Transplant (9 Viewers)

basically they just cut the old water neck off and braze on the new one in the correct size and then moving the water neck is a process of cut and braze in new location and then fill in/braze where old water neck was. Like noted I think a lot of the people are plastic tank types now and they don't even deal with the old school things...ie brass tanks. New way is to just buy another plastic tank and see how long until the next replacement. Allthough I will say I've had good luck with the radiators on my GM pickups...non-issue..but basically when they have a problem you just get a new one...no real repair work.

The guy on the phone sounded like it wasn't a big deal, it just depended on the radiator. If he can do it, I'll also have him swap the sides on the fill neck and upper neck (and resize it to 1.25"). I think I can get a cleaner upper hose layout if I do that.

The place is called CIA Radiators. No wonder I couldn't find them. I been asking all the radiator shops if they know of any place that still does this work, and this is the first time anyone has mentioned them.

Final intake layout...

After I modified my intake tube, I stumbled across a pic of a stock tube w/o the front resonator. Maybe from a model with a mechanical fan. I found a cheap one on eBay, to replace mine with something a little cleaner looking.

Hot Damn!

I found the place! It was over where I got my t-case bearings pressed on, but several blocks deeper into the bowels of the hood.

Barring any complications, I should be able to pick it up tomorrow afternoon.

On the way there, I saw this magnificent tumbleweave. This is by far the largest I've ever spotted in the wild. It was so big I thought it was a dog. Surely this is a sign of great things to come.

That might be mine, it came up missing. I pinned it on Bomar, since he was the last to borrow it....

******Edit - I switched to a custom radiator later on Cam's FJ60 is Gittin' a Heart Transplant ******

He swapped the lower neck & drain locations (and put in a better, metal, petcock). The works out good because the stock drain location sucks.

I also had him swap the fill neck and upper hose neck, which was changed to 1-1/4".

Grand Total: $85. Quite a bargain to me.

Here's the steam vent fitting. The bleeder is probably pointless at this location.

I got the new intake that came with no front resonator. It must be the intake used on vehicles with a mech fan, since they make contact. I have to do the cut and plug on the back resonator. It will look a lot better.

Clean and nice solution. Glad you did not cut the fan.

I had radiator work done at one of those old time shops. Like Vulcan's hall in the back with flames, boiling liquids and the works. Nice.

I threw a little extra bling on while I'm in there...

New A/C condenser...

New hood support grommet & clip...

And my favorite piece of new bling, a new coolant overflow bottle & cap...

I saw this on some other threads, so you don't lose your brakes if you stall (hopefully a non-issue with the auto), you need a check valve on the vacuum line from the intake to the brake booster. Here that is, shown with the reducer needed to connect the two lines...

I can't wait till you sell it to me.

Better start flying some overtime, it won't be cheap!

I can see how these get sold mid-project. Especially how it sits right now. It seems like it is so close, but all the little details left are overwhelming.

It's best not to think about more than one thing at a time.

When we gonna hear this thing roar?

When we gonna hear this thing roar?

Man, not soon enough. The instant it does, there will be video.

I'm working on it straight through to Monday night (taking Monday off), hopefully that's enough time.

Facelift for the box. I worked fine before, so I didn't rebuild it. The sag pump will find any weak spots though.

DIY high pressure PS hose from PSC. I'll take this to a hydraulic shop and get a crimped one made later.

Also note the hood shock conversion. These are much nicer than the stock assist springs...
