Does anyone on here have the CampTEQ rooftop conversion? I have been dabbling with the idea for about 5 years now and am seriously considering it.

What are your thoughts?

Road noise?

Water intrusion?

What would you do different during the instal phase for future ideas (wiring, lights, storage)?

Thanks for the info and obviously pictures welcomed! And for those that don't know here is a pic, not alot of hundys out there with them. I have installed 3 of them. I like it. Mostly 80s:

I have one (of the first) on my 80. No issues with water intrusion or road noise. I just recently purchased a 100 for my daughter and can see the appeal of a pop-top 100 for sure. If I were buying one today I would be sure to get the bed platform option.

I toyted having campteq do one for my 100 a few years ago, if memory serves me right (and that is questionable), later years have side curtain airbag complications.

Still dreaming....

I ran into a guy in CO last year with a converted 100. His only complaint was you can't reach the pop up latches from inside the 100 because the sail panels don't open far enough, compared to the 80 series sliders.

I did a little digging and it sounds like in 2003 side curtains became an option. Something to think about or verify if someone is thinking about getting one of these.

I've talked to campteq (eric) at length about it, and it seems like such a great setup. He showed me some pics of a guy that imported the POV pack plastics from a 100 or 105 and it made the final install look mint.

Was hoping that whoever that guy was, is on here.

Wondering if you can crawl through the sunroof on an 80 series (and not have to cut your roof)? Also, does anyone have interior width/length dimensions for an 80 series?

I thought about that too but I think the sunroof opening is too far forward and close the the top hinge that you would have to be extremely slim and flexible to squeeze through the opening and into the tent. I’ve had three other RTT setups: CVT, JB, ALU-CAB, and now this. Here’s a few pics of my 470. Any questions, let me know.

I truly did not know this was an option and am blown away by this. So there are no supports between the vehicle anymore , just open pop top roof?

As someone who spends a lot of time cramped in a 100 series sleeping with my wife and dog, this conversion would be awesome. I've never even heard of CampTeq, I guess I need to start doing some googlin'

Looking at their website now and I'm still not sure, do they sell roof top tents or do they someone make your roof disappear like in the build from kipod.

I was looking at this as a an option but Looks like the front cowling could create some hassles with windshield R&R.
I'm assuming that it has a removable unit?

No water.
Minor rattles (but normal in my 470).
0 regrets.

You can install yourself (like I planned)
Or have Eric do the install (like I ended up with)

Chatted with a friend at COTR2 and he mentioned Eric was back making these. Both him (200 series) and I ended up getting these done. No regrets and super happy with ease of setup and tear down. I can roll into camp late and be asleep in less than two minutes with about same time for pack up in the morning. I travel with my 470 as much as possibly (vs flying) and do a lot of “state hopping” along the way. This has been by far the easiest and most convenient of all my setups. Not cheap by any means, but it fits what I need very well.

It does seal to the glass and might be an issue with windshield replacement. I already had a few chips and expect a few more (got one on the way to COTRockies) so I didn’t worry as much. Unless it’s directly in my field of vision, I’m not as worried about it.

I reached out to Eric/Campteq. I knew these were pricey endeavors, but oh boy!
I live out of my LX full time while I save and decided where I might want to buy some land out here in Colorado.
At nearly $20k all in for the pop-top I may just have to keep doing it with a little less space.

If I was trying to DIY a pop top, I would start with a Dissent Rack as the base. It's the most "integrated" looking rack and the base is a perfect rectangle, unlike the 100's roof which is wider at the front than the rear. And then build the top using extruded aluminum. There are a lot of DIY guides for building extruded aluminum RTT's. The "rack to roof" would have to be closed off and sealed off but that work is hidden.

Unfortunately, this is my only transpo and living out of it full-time makes any project more than a day impossible. Plus, I turn wrenches all day so long-term projects are a no no. Most weekends I'm off in the CO Mtns.

The CampTeq was an attractive option, especially since they are headquartered nearby. The price on the other hand...
I've been quite comfortable for a long time without it so I'll be fine.

That’s an awesome setup, I see the appeal of being able to stand up inside. I went with a GFC roof top tent and it is amazing. I have had several RTT and while they are not what you’re asking about I can’t see how they don’t offer you an 80% solution for a fraction of the cost?

I think in a 100 series you are still living “around” the vehicle verses “inside” the vehicle.

I think at that point I’d like a full camper build out in the back. Maybe I’m missing your intentions of the appeal of this design?
These look awesome and seem to keep things lightweight but the space inside a 100 seems so limited already I’m not sure I see how the juice is worth the squeeze? YMMV.
