I've owned a LX 450 for about eight years and thought I might move up to an LX 470. I Just found a 2001 LX 470 on craiglist for 4000.00 with a bad motor. I spoke to the owner, he said that it had 220,000 miles on it before the oil pump went out and blew the motor. Thought this might be a good winter progect. Does this sound like a good deal? What are other issues with should I be concerned with with a high mileage LX 470.

Sent you a pm. Let me know if you dont buy. Looking for a 1-2 year proffit//slee conversion project. Was thinking same diesel thats in the Audi Q7 TDI. Or something bigger.

I can't wait to see this :)

pics of that one do not look promising.

I believe it was originally sold in Florida, Moved to Anchorage, then to WA

I find the sub mounted in the center console odd- as well as the wheels.

Kennewick is a long way from me, there is one in Gresham OR with 78K for like 15K. (Its at a dealer as well, look on Autotrader)

As a veteran of a three year rock crawler build I can tell you from experience it's a whole lot more fun to actually go out and drive than spend every weekend and every night after work building a truck.
Unless you just really enjoy custom fabrication and mechanical design go with the path more taken. There will still be plenty of chances to express yourself, look at the stuff Spressomon has done with his truck which has an essentially stock drive train.
Not to mention that there will be a big pile of cash left over when you compare repairing a stock drive train to a conversion. Cash that can go into stuff like really good shocks, RTT, bumpers, custom lifts, etc.

I'm just sayin......:meh:

I know which one you're talking about, I'm in the same boat like you ( lx450 to uzj100 ) talked to the guy last night and he say that wasn't the price it was suppose to be at, he wants at least 7k for it. :meh: good luck!

Here is another option: https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-trailers-sale-wanted/614721-2000-land-cruiser-uzj100-ut.html

I know Paul is on here and he has offered it to me for $10,500. The 98 I am looking at is cleaner, has less miles, and does not need a radio or tires. It does come with a stack of service receipts and has been owned by 2 Mudders. Not sure if the additional mileage and not as good condition is a good trade off for having stability control and traction control. Thoughts?

I thought you all talked me out of it and I was over this itch but it's still on my mind.

If you care about fuel economy in the slightest, walk away from the 100 series now.

I'm 29 and single with a girlfriend and a dog, and I started looking for an 01-04 DC Taco a few years ago for an adventure vehicle. I drove several and had lot of ideas of what I would do with it and liked them quite a bit from the exterior, but for me it just felt too bland on the inside and wasn't extremely comfortable (full disclosure I have been driving BMWs and Audis for over 10 years so I'm biased). I drove the 100 series a couple years ago and totally fell in love. The seating position, the way it drives, how well made it is and most of all how capable it is - it's just a trail rig or a bad weather vehicle, but it's a do-it-all with ease and style vehicle that really has no peer. From a financial aspect, it's expensive period. I just paid $11.5k for a 98 with low miles/109k which sounds like a good deal, but think of it this way: a 98 Ford Expedition would sell for maybe $5k, a 98 Suburban maybe $4k, a Dodge Durango $4k, etc. Those aren't quite the same caliber vehicle, but still a 24% residual on a 14 year old car is crazy! The flip side is, they maintain their value especially if they're maintained, and other than fuel costs the regular upkeep is really not that expensive compared to other vehicles in it's class. I personally think it's one of the coolest and best vehicles on the road, and I'm super stoked to own one even though I don't have kids or even a real need for the space. I got rid of my Ducati Monster and my BMW X5 to clear room for the 100 so that should tell you how much I like it!

Oh and PS - this weekend I did an offroad trip with highway, crawling and towing a trailer with a dirt bike and quad and overall I averaged 15.2 mpg with 4 adults and a full truck of camping gear. Only mods from stock though are removal of running boards and 285/75/16 or 33"x11.5" tires. Pretty good if you ask me!
