Did you ever say where you are located? I would trade with you for a day or two. Are you close to East Texas?

I sold a 08' dc Tacoma for my 100. I love everything about my 100 and would not trade back. But, that being said, I am looking for an 01-04 DC to add to my stable. I guess what I am saying is if I could only own 1, it would be my 100. My ideal is owning both.

Same here. Love my 100 but a 01-04 DC would be a nice addition.

Hi guys, this is my first post in this forum and I'm very excited about the prospect of getting my first LC.

I have had a quite a track record with SUV's. Chevrolet, Land Rover, Jeep, Toyota and Porsche.

I have done some reading on the forum and some how got a general idea of what to look for on what hopefully will be my next road warrior.

I'm currently looking at a 2006 Land Cruiser with about 38000 miles.
And as many of us I have several questions.
I expect the LC to be bullet proof, one of the best cars I have ever owned was a 2006 4 Runner, so I expect it to be very good.
Another positive is that the car belonged to a family member and was well taken care for.

How ever I'm curious to know if all LC, need attention on the water pump and Timing belt.

I will mainly drive the LC on highway. Specially into Northern Mexico. Can any one comment on how good the LC is in power response, if for example I need to over take an 18 wheeler on a two lane road?
Are there any aftermarket mods I could install to improve stability (like a sway bar)?

Thank you so much in advanced for your advice and I hope to post some photos of the 100 soon.

The LC is just as, or more, bullet proof than the 4runner, no worries there.

The LC, like virtually all Toyotas, need the timing belt replaced every 90k. Are you are asking if the LC is more sensitive to timing belts or water pumps than other Toyotas? If so, then the answer is no. Keep in mind the 100 Series LC's 2UZ-FE V8 is nothing special really. It's shared with other vehicles like the Tundra, 4runner, Sequoia, GX470, etc.

It's a V8, so in stock form passing on the highway is no sweat at all. I've never had any issues when needing to pass. In comparison, the difference between my old 80 Series with the inline six is night and day! The 80 would barely pass on a two lane road.

Factory sway bars front/rear. No aftermarket options, except for poly bushings on the stock bars.

The biggest stability improvement will come from aftermarket shocks, specifically the Bilsteins.

Anthony,

Thank you very much for the very comprehensive response.

Looks like the LC is as I suspected... excellent.
I will surely post some photos once I complete the purchase and I will post a project list.
It will most likely be the Bilsteins and some other goodies.

Thanks again

As great as the LC is, it's not without a couple cons. The 2006 you are looking at more than likely has AHC, which depending on your goals might and might not be ideal. The other con is the factory navigation, which ties in all the HVAC controls. Issues with this unit are costly and you loose control over everything without it. There is a project in the works to offer an option to replace with a non-Nav (rare factory option).

Actually I'm lucky, the LC I'm buying was originally purchased in Mexico, it is a Mexico spec vehicle, that means no nav, and no height control.
The stereo unit is separate of the ac controls. It actually has in dash cd and tape player.
The height control knob is not present and has a little tray like in older LC.

And on top of it and actually the very reason I'm getting this particular LC over getting a newer LC or Lexus its because it's armored. I'm replacing my current armored Jeep, which is great but not as reliable as a Toyota.
B6 armor by Global Armor. Full armor on entire vehicle, run flat tires, etc.
This car needs to keep me safe while working in the Chihuahua region of Mexico which up untill last year Cd Juarez was ranked the most dangerous place on earth even worst than other places with wars.

I have several friends in Kabul who drive up-armored 100 Series Cruisers with IFS and petrol V8s.

They are very happy with them. The only complaint (as you are well aware) is the amount of cabin space-reduction due to the armor.

You are about to make a move that you will never regret.

I'm certain it is going to be a great car.

The first time I owned a Toyota it was my 06 4runner, I traded my old 98 Range Rover for it and I was sold for life with the brand.
Unfortunately I had to sell my Runner to buy my current Jeep, which was more a necessity than my first choice.
I do agree with your friends, at least the roof feels much lower (bad for a tall person) and the door pillars feel like if they where more into the cabin area.
Other than that just ongoing preventive maintenance, due to the extra weight. I usually do an oil change every 2 months regardless of the millage. Brake pads every 6 months. Springs and shock absorbers(depending on the brand) every year.
Tear gas tanks every year, window elevator maintenance every 6 months and the list goes on.
But it is what it is to keep some one safe.

Looking at buying 2005 with 42000 miles

New here but not to land cruisers. Looking at a 2005 loaded with 42000 miles. Has aftermarket DVD and all other standard options. Price is $30,900 with clean car fax. Is located at a carmax nearby. Have been looking at several LC and this one seems real nice as does the price. No records other than car fax. What do u think?

what were the options for US UZJ100s 2007 year?
-Nav
-AHC
-rear spoiler
-rear DVD entertainment
-any others?

Side Curtain Airbags. You will find very few that do not have Nav or AHC and even fewer that have neither.

If you placed a factory order through the dealer?

The only items not standard on every vehicle from the factory I believe are...

Factory Navigation
Rear DVD entertainment
Roof Rack
Rear Spoiler
AHC

Now, keep in mind almost, if not, ever single dealer ordered LC from 2005 onward came fully loaded with all these options. You would have to find someone that special ordered from the factory minus one of the options above (i.e. extremely rare).

2004+ 18" wheels were standard, but I want to say maybe there was a larger/premium wheel option too...

So i might have found a good deal.
the good: 2003 LC w/ 190k miles for $12k.
the bad: missing key, blown front speakers, torn passenger leather seat, and rust under rear windshiel by lift release.

I feel like the issues are relatively minor and given the price, I might be able to work it down a bit or have the seller fix a few things. If nothing else, I should be able to fix a few things with the money saved. The truck drives nice and strong and everything seems to work fine.

Anyone have any suggestions on whether this is truly a good deal?

04 LX, 100k, rust free, one-owner, full records, clean carfax, RES. Thinking $21-22k?

It will be a princess/mall cruiser. Been a while since I've been shopping. Funny, but after you've had a 100, nothing else compares. Even tried the GX. Nice, peppy, but not as solid.

2000 TLC $12k 152k miles - DEAL or DUD?

After much debate and trouble finding a decent 80 series, I'm back to my search for a 100 series. Any thoughts here? I figured for an extra $3k-$4k I'm saving myself a lot of headaches over a 1997 80 series.

2000 TLC. "Clean Carfax, Gorgeous charcoal gray interior and exterior. Has 152K miles and still rides like new" per owner (3rd owner / female) Timing belt was done about a year ago. I don't know at what mileage. Going to look at it tomorrow. Tips?

Price seems okay, but I've seen 2000's go for about $10.5-$11k. How does that sound?

My mom has a GX470 and I drive it quiet often. Honestly for princess/mall cruiser it's a way better rig than the LC/LX. Lower to the ground means easier for the princess and kids to get in/out. It's smaller overall which means easier to park and maneuver in parking lots. Less weight and size means the same V8 has way more pep.

Hey Anthony! Good to see some familiar names still here on MUD.

We drove the GX thinking we'd experience exactly what you said - quicker, easier to maneuver. But the ride quality, space, and solidness (is that even a word?) doesn't compare. It's truly like comparing an LC with a 4R, but with nicer wood. :) And maybe our sales guy was way off, but in the earlier GX's it doesn't look like the 3rd row comes out? At least not without tools.

I am really having trouble finding a decent LC100 on this side of the border. I do my daily search on Kijiji, Autotrader etc.. for a '03 and up LC and there are none available. Importing would mean paying a 20% premium and a lot of aggravation and waiting, not to mention that I would end up buying a vehicle unseen and I would have to trust a broker.

There are LX's available in Canada and if I compare those prices with the ones in the US, there isn't much difference so I am not sure if paying at least 20% more makes sense just to get a lower spec LC vs a LX

And no matter what I do, this 2006 LX470 in Toronto keeps popping up.
It has been for sale at this dealership for over a year now and before that it was for sale at another dealership (Nipash?), so my guess is that this vehicle hasn't been on the road for almost 2 years. I wonder why? What's wrong with it? And is Ultra Premium even a package or is it just dealer mumbo-jumbo.
I haven't seen it in person yet but it seems like a good deal to me especially if they are willing to negotiate to get it off their lot. It's accident free and low mileage (65k)
I just have to get over the bling...
