Don't be fooled by the "4.7l V-8.". It's slower than molasses in winter time. Just because it has more power than the previous series, doesn't mean it is fast. At all. Good, useable torque, though. Don't get mad guys, I love my new 100, but it struggles up freeway hills, stock. My heavier built Silverado with a 5.3 will run circles around the 100, and haul alot more as well. It's apples and oranges. The 100 is for hauling a bunch of gear and people, out of the rain, on moderate trails, with comfort and reliability. And that comfort and quietness goes away when you add mudders, ome lift and bumpers. Then it rides like a manure spreader. I love it.

If you've gone this far and posting this, it's a done deal. You're getting one... Stop teasing yourself!
You have now cracked open the door of possibility and the wind of emotion will blow it open and you through it.

In college I dreamt of a LC, but could only afford my Montero. Now 10 years later, the LC I always wanted became a reality. I was lucky and got a fully built one with all of the ARB goodies for the price of a stock one.

What everybody says is true, if you need the capability to hop on the narrow trails, stick with the taco, if you do not mind the big burly beast, then go for the LC. The quality and rise is amazing, and like any Toyota there are pretty east to repair. The money you put into the car, aside from aftermarket goodies, will pay for itself over time.

They hold value like a rock. If you can swing it, but an LC, but remember, an LC is like a woman, you do not want to buy the first one you test drive! Take your time, experience many and go with the one that really gets you going!

Who knows how mild I would keep it. I've said the same thing about the last 2 Toyota's I've had and the 4runner ended up on 35's, 4.88's locked front and rear, snorkel, skids, winch, bumpers. My Tacoma is very mild compared to that. Really wish I could jut borrow a hundy for a day and go from there. I'll just keep thinking it over, It's not like my tacoma is depreciating fast.

Just because I miss the ol runner here's a couple pics.

About 6 months ago, I traded my 2002 double cab Tacoma for my 2002 LC. I really miss the bed and the MPG it got, but I bought that truck when I didn't have kids. Two kids later, the LC fits the bill perfectly. Plenty of interior space and hands down them most comfortable auto I've ever owned.

I'd say keep the Taco, unless you have plans on having some kiddos soon. :-)

But then again, looks like you're addicted to building up stock vehicles!

You can take my stocker for a spin if you're in the Springs area.

no way a 100 is going to hang with that 4Runner in your picture. BTW, that is one of the front bumper pics I gave to the fabricator when I was working on my 100's bumper....I really liked that 4Runner....nice truck

So what happened between then and when it got put on your truck???

I concur. My name is Jon and I am not creative.

Cool to hear you based your bumper off mine. My main thing when designing it was high clearance. Wish I still had it to put on my Tacoma. Guess the arb will do.
So far you all are talking me into keeping my Tacoma and just building it up more.

Since you're single, I'd keep the Taco. That's what I had before wife/children. Cheap(er) maintenance, better MPG, smaller size (a plus when DD'ing), and a truck bed.

IF you're going to be proposing soon and expect children in the near future, then seriously look at the 100. Ultimate family expedition rig, IMO. Capable enough for me and comfortable enough for the wife.

Agreed. I wouldn't be looking to move up unless I really needed the room.

Ok I am throwing my hat into the ring. Decided to go with the 100 over the 80 so now I am wondering about 4spd vs 5spd. Price being in the same ballpark, should I go after an 02 with 100k miles or an 04 with 127k miles? Both have had their respective timing belts, drive belts and water pumps recently replaced. Thank you in advance and I look forward to the imminent addiction.

I have both as well and the Taco is a great fit for a young active single lifestyle. If I ever had to sell one? Yeah the Taco would be gone in a heartbeat! The 100 is just the perfect fit for me.

I'd say get out of college first and then re-evaluate. After you graduate and land the first 'real' job your financial situation will change...hopefully for the better. That may make a bigger difference in your decision so I would chill for another year or two.

I don't do tight trails so, grain of salt, but while the 100 is wider by 6" it is also shorter by 10" and has a tighter turning circle. It feels pretty nimble to me, albeit heavy, and with the AHC in sport I can really throw it around. It's no sports car but it blows away every other truck i've driven. If you manage momentum well it will seriously surprise people and scare the hell out of your wife.
