New guy here. I'm looking at 2 '99s with 127k and 133k. Both are in very good condition and have had timing belts replaced. Both sellers are telling me $12,900 firm. Are these good deals, on value, or priced high? How are actual selling values comparing with KBB private party these days?

Here are links. Actual mileage is 127k and 133k, respectively.
127k miles
133k miles

Thanks very much for input.

Brandon,
Those are probably pretty fair prices considering mileage and I am assuming very little to no rust underneath. Around Utah, those would be great rides and decently priced.

I bought a 99 LC about 5 years ago in Utah, it was a AZ vehicle no rust looked new underneath and it only had 50K miles for $20K at the time I thought it was a good deal. If they look clean don't worry about the miles, pick the cleanest one.

I am in the market for an older 100. I am wondering if I should even be considering 98-99 models because of the weaker front diff. Is this a legitimate concern? When do they typically let go?

TIA!

Not a big deal in my opinion and if you think you might wheel it hard....put in the ARB front locker and it upgrades everything in the diff.

I dont think cost of ownership is different except maybe later models being better on gas due to 5speed......then they have a NAV AC STEREO integrated screen so you cant upgrade it and if it dies you dont have AC controls...LOL

They are all good...just weigh price, how you are going to use it, and see what you find. People think I am crazy for wheeling a 2000 LX470....to me it is a 10 year old 100 series. :D :D

I think there is something quite badass about wheeling a Lexus :)

I've actually got my eye on a 2000 LX and would probably give him cash on the spot if he would respond to my emails. The dang phone number listed is out of service... I don't think it's a scam tho. It's listed in Frisco which matches the Carfax and Lexus service history. I want it so bad :(

I just found a 1999 LC, 190k miles. It's river rock mica (one of if not my favorite color) and has the locking rear diff. Mostly all highway miles, just had the timing belt and water pump done for the 2nd time. 2nd owner but has all receipts from the day it rolled of the lot. $12000 (kinda high?)

Only known issue is the sunroof, it won't open...

I was really set on a 2000+ because of the stronger front diff and ATRAC.

I don't plan on any hard core offroading, so do I have any reason to worry about the diff?

Opinions?

I think on the 99 that price seems a little high unless modified. I didnt worry about the front diff, it would be easier to replace with an ARB and be fully locked than wish you were with Atrac. I know atrac is great and wonderful but it is a different kind of being in control of your diffs. With that said I plan on upgrading to an ARB in the front sometime next year. :D

that is crazy high money...for that money, you can find one with 110k-140k on it...between 11-14 HERE IN UTAH

Ya that's what I thought. It needs new tires and the sunroof is stuck closed. (better than stuck open I guess...)

It does have all the service records and the big service was just done for the 2nd time.

That being said, I think it's worth a lot closer $9000 than $12000

Yeti, how many miles are on your 99?

I am at about 178,xxx and you would never guess it had high mileage. I think the V8 in the 100s seems to be a dam fine engine. Keep looking and pricing , I had a hard time finding one, but if you revisit some that were to $$$ they may lower the price. Also keep an eye out for lightly modified rigs, most of the time these were well taken care of rigs! good luck..

This guy is asking $12k for his... He said $11k was about as low as he'd be willing to go. I'm thinking he's nuts and will never sell at that price. It's worth $10k max, and it needs new tires (1999, 190k miles)

Hello Guys,

Just took delivery of my 100 this weekend. It is a 2002 and I bought it from a New Jersey Lexus Dealer. It is in very good shpe with 150k miles, 90k service done, and I paid $12.5k for it. I will be posting pictures tomorrow. I have an 80 which I am hated for in this forum (it's a street application) but I live in Miami and it wouldn't be functional to have a 5" lifted truck with 38" tires and all the armor to travel 20 miles a day in the highway but I guess some refuse to understand that fact.

The 100 will stay stock for the most part. i'm going to get it painted (ORIGINAL COLOR) reupholstered with same original leather and off course I want to mod the engine to get extra power.

I will post pictures tomorrow

Cheers

Good price?

I am looking at a 2000 LX470 locally. Has 100k miles and the interior/exterior is almost in mint condition nhasnt had the 90k service done yet but he is willing to take $14,000 for it. What do you think? It looks as if it's been a grocery getter it's whole life and it has been garage kept.

probably safe and sounds like he is selling to keep from having to do the 90k service...just check for leaks around radiator, engine, tranny...and lower ball joints.

I would go by Lexus and see if they can pull up its service history at all since I am not thinking he was the only owner.

Soulds like a good one though...if the interior is SPOTLESS and without wear then it is usually indicative of someone that took care of rest of vehicle. Just make sure it is not a good detail job that made interior and exterior so clean and fresh.....that it is really wear and tear. See if there are stains under seats or if seatbelts are stained....

well, I was supposed to head down to San Antonio to pick up my new 100 (2000 134k). The dealer discovered a cracked exhaust manifold and is replacing it. Unfortunately it won't be ready today, and I will have to figure out another time to get it, or just have it shipped. Hopefully I can get it this coming week. I'm so stinking excited!

LX470 vs. Land Cruiser

I was doing some research on the net on LX470 vs. Land Cruiser. The general consensus is that it's better to go with the Land Cruiser. Suppossidly the LX is far more costly to repair and has more known issues especially with the transmission, manifold and AHC. Some things were mentioned the the Land Cruiser is the standard and anyone would be crazy to have the LX470 over it. This now has me a little paranoid about buying a certain LX that I'm seriously looking at. The LX I'm looking at is really clean and has low mileage. By the way I'm looking at early 2000's truck as this particular LX is a 2000.
Should I just hold out for a Land Cruiser?

All lies! :)

I thought the same thing when I got my lexus, but I've actually found the opposite to be true. Ive had quotes for parts from both toyota, and lexus and so far the lexus dealer always has the better prices. The last part I bought was a water pump, the toyota dealer wanted $220, I got it from the lexus dealer for $180.
Good Luck

Just an FYI: Toyota doesn't set what the dealers charge for parts. Our local Toyota dealer here in Reno is consistently 20-40% (!!!) over Toyota's MSRP for parts. In fact I've never gotten a price from them on any Toyota Land Cruiser part that wasn't more, and substantially more, than MSRP!

And we have a tremendous resource here within the 'MUD Vendor community: American Toyota in Albuquerque. Onur or his boss Dan always seem to provide healthy discounts for all of us here!

To your question: I'd hold out for the real deal instead of the imitation Land Cruiser/wannabe :D
