I'm almost certain that the same "leather goo" repair material used by some folks to basically bondo over leather issues. Likewise the console top upholstery has been replaced with a single piece of material. It doesn't have the seams running longitudinally down the sides. It's a hack job and there was zero effort put into it to do it properly. My '03 LX has exactly this same interior and those spots are not worn or appear like that at all.

Again, if folks are not going to do a better job addressing visually obvious items, just think was has been done to address issues you can't see.

I'd walk.

think it is a home repair using the leather bondo crap rather than going to upholstery shop and having them fix it right. If it is mechanically sound and all services I would not pass just for that...it is fixable if it bothers you.

Looks like a Leather repair gone bad to me. If it was done by a dealer then the same person who did the leather probably didn't do anything mechanical.

I don't think it's a deal killer, every 100 at this age will have some issues.

Antenna grounding problem is relatively common and not a known harbinger of NAV doom.

I looked through the records on toyota owners online and it has been serviced regularly. I did notice a couple of items that look concerning. There were several times over a few years that he had EFI flushing. Is that normal?

Probably normal for the dealer to "upsell" the unsuspecting vehicle owner for a "recommended" service.;)

Can anybody comment on a gas millage difference with the 06 engine versus the 05?

Trying to make the decision on a cost of ownership basis over 100K miles...

The MPG will almost be identical. The major difference in MPG came with the 2003+ and the introduction of the 5-speed tranny.

I am probably making this process a lot harder than it needs to be. (Its the Engineer in me coming out)

Cost of ownership over 100K miles:Purchase price, service, mods, resale. (just looking at the difference) I estimated resale based on the difference between an 02 with 200K and an 03 with 150K.

05 06
Purchase $24000 $31000
Timing Belt $0 $1000
Lift $1000 $0 (or $1000 if AHC dies)
Resale $-16000 $-18000

Totals $9000 $14000

You are definitely over analyzing things! :D

Buy the one you feel most comfortable with, either will be an excellent vehicle. Resell will be inline with what you paid initially. Meaning the newer LC will have a higher resale, but you also paid more initially.

I still say go for the cheaper on and use the leftovers for mods right away!

FYI the minute you start mods the value will go down. If you are concerned about resale value keep it stock and low miles. I would buy the newest with the lowest miles.

Thinking about making the switch

Currently I'm thinking about making the switch back to Toyota from my Land Rover Discovery. Years ago I received good information about non-greaseable u-joints on the front DS and other common problems with the Series II from the LRO group. Now thinking about selling and coming back to the Toyota brand. Wanted to spend around 10K (give or take) to getting into a Cruiser. My older sister drives a 96 and loves it, I'm thinking something a bit newer. Looking for recommendations and things to watch for during the buying process. Will this leap be worth my time? Thanks to everyone in advance.

anyone know of any scrap yard/shop that may have original 16" 100 series wheels in SoCal or a reputable source. I'm not interested in reconditioned or re-manufactured wheels. TYA

The '06 will get better MPG with the VVT motor but no enough to sway a purchase IMO.

I have set of 4 in AZ for sale

Well I've decided I am not going to take my LX470 to Maui. So I am going to sell it to the Lexus dealer or the local carmax. If anyone wants to buy it cash I am in the KC Missouri area. I want $28K for it. Have records showing all serivices done at Lexus dealer by the book, new tires, brakes, even cabin airfilter. My LX470 is a 2004 with 67K miles. It spent 90% of its life in Austin Texas and there is no rust on this Lexus. I will be selling it within the next month.
