2000-2002 LX470 or 2003 LX470

Hi guys, I have an built 80. I love it but the ride is just not good enough for every day and hauling family around. Unless I put the FOR suspension in it to make it ride nice but again to high for loading and unloading baby. I am debating to sell it and get a LX470, is the 2003 worth the extra penny since it has 5 speed trany and updated dash with niced gadget? The 2000-2002 model seems to be so much cheaper to 2003 and up model. I have been debating about this for quite sometime as our newly acquired IS250 is not big enough to haul our stuff around in certain occasion, like my girl's radio flyer wagon. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks:)

I am new to this forum but can tell you why I wanted a 2000-2001 instead of later or earlier models...everyone is different though and none is right or wrong.

1. did not want 98-99 because of 2 pinion vs 4 pinion front setup....4 is stronger though if I put an ARB Locker in front I think it negates this weakness...not sure though.

2. I wanted A-Trac after experiencing its capabilities in my FJC...not a locker but almost as good I have found.

3. I did not want built in NAV unit in stereo like was showing up in later 2002+ models....as ones I looked at also had the AC and HEATER FAN and TEMP controls integral to the radio...so if NAV Radio fails...you just also lost AC control...and there is no aftermarket replacement...just OEM at this point.

4. I did want the 5speed tranny...did not care about the 20hp increase...but neither at the increase in cost it took to get them...plus it was very hard to find a newer model without NAV.

So I got my 2000 LX....4pinion, can replace stereo (and I have already)...AHC is in good shape so kept me from having to buy a suspension lift immediately...only 4spd but so was my FJ60 :) and got it with 130k miles, timing belt done, new water pump, new brakes and rotors, new tires....Excellent interior and exterior.....delivered 250 miles to my door for FREE OF CHARGE....for $15,500

Anything in the 2002 and up range was near $20,000 or more easily and since mine would be going in woods immediately...did not want that type of investment up front...would rather spend the extra cash on sliders, mud terrains, front and rear bumpers, roof rack, etc....

Good luck....

2002 LC

Looking at a 2002 w/137k miles. It is at a Honda dealer, they took it in on a trade. 2nd owner traded it, Carfax says California its whole life. Their "internet" price is $15,598 (sticker on the car is $18,500) but the service guys stopped getting it ready for sale when they realized the NAV isn't working. They have had it for a couple weeks and are considering taking it to auction because they are looking at ~$1500 to replace the entire NAV system. Here is some additional info;

- No record of 90k service (not much in the way of service records at all). The owners that traded it said they had it done???

- NAV doesn't work, says "No disk detected". All HVAC and audio controls work though. They do have the NAV disk, apparently the service guys have tried to get it to work but no luck.

- Needs new tires.

- Exterior and interior are in good shape. Underside is very clean, zero rust and no dirt. Engine bay looks clean as well (vehicle has not been detailed by dealer).

I drove it home from the dealer and will take it to a mechanic tomorrow for a 3rd party inspection.

What do you guys think? Anyone in the Sacramento area care to take a look and see if I'm missing anything?

Thanks for the advice, I've been looking for one of these for a while. Seems like it might be a good deal if I can get it for $12-13k and have them throw in a 90k service unless I can get a record that it was done.

If you are planning to upsize tires then I'd say,
yes, it is worth the extra coin.

I bought a 2002 last year, Nov, for ~$15.9k w/ no 90k service done (had 100k miles). It was a Michigan LC, so rust (I live in Michigan, no point in denying the inevitable to me and it didn't look horrible). Most of the miles from the last owner in a short period of time, so most likely highway. They had an XM satellite installed, I think they spent a lot of time on the road. Dealer prepped, did some front end work/brakes/etc. as part of the prep, then I paid for the 90K service and an extra master key. Several thousand less then anything else I could find close and I was okay with a few dings, which in hindsight I am glad didn't bother me as I managed to test just how close I could get to a plastic mailbox last week, the answer was not quite as close as I got.

Do they have all the keys? i.e. do they have the fob and does it work? if so, look into all the fob breaking issues people have had. mine did not come with a fob/remote entry/etc.

I tried the AC when I drove it, but in November it's not much of a test, make sure the AC works - probably more critical to you then me, I only really "need" AC a couple weeks out of the year, my kids love driving with the windows down and sunroof open, I am looking at an AC amplifier problem that is close to $500 for parts alone. There is a sequence you can do on start-up that will self-diagnose the AC - this is a hindsight 20/20 thing for me, as I found it out after looking through the service manual on how to diagnose my AC problem. Turn the ignition switch to ON with the A/C (Auto) and R/F switches (the recycle/fresh air switch) held down. It will go through a whole series of diagnostics and if there are errors it will flash a code in the upper right corner of the NAV screen.

If the 90K service was done, normally there is a marking/date inside the engine compartment near the belt that indicates when it was done. If it's not there, don't think it was done.

From the codes, without typing all of the info. in, it sounds like a connector issue possibly, if you bust out your google-fu you can normally find .pdf files of service manuals, (I bought mine in addition to having ane electronic copy, because when you're out working on it, well, there is no substitute for flipping through a paper copy)

2001 lx470

Hi there. First time poster, long time troll-er.

I've been searching for several months for a gently used 100 to do a mild, gradual build into a family vacation/expedition hauler. This website has been a tremendous source of information as I contemplate entering the ranks of LC owners. I ran across this 2001 with 82K on Autotrader, and now see that it is listed on ebay.

Lexus : LX: eBay Motors (item 260634571091 end time Jul-15-10 14:56:05 PDT)

Carfax has it as a one-owner, low-mileage Texas vehicle. It also shows no accidents, which is obviously belied by the right rear fender and wheel damage. I've spoken to the dealer a couple of times by phone, and he says that the PO was backed into in a mall parking lot, and she never bothered to get it fixed. He's willing to go as low as 14995, which seems like a pretty decent deal compared with most other listings I've seen in the last few months.

I live in Austin, and the vehicle is around 200 miles away in Houston, so I'm trying to do as much due diligence as possible before hopping in the car and driving 3 hours.

I'm more concerned with the interior condition and overall mechanical condition than things like wheels and tires, since those are on the to-be-upgraded list, anyway. However, I'm worried that the exterior might be revealing an overall lack of care by the PO.

Thanks for any thoughts.

It also likely needs timing belt, water pump, seals, front tire bearings packed as well....90k Full Service is not cheap so a lot of people sell when it is due.

I would get another dealership to do a pre-sale inspection and then address anything found with this dealership.

My 2000 had 130k but was in pristine condition with all services completed, new tires, new brakes and rotors, bearings packed, etc....for just over $15k.

Based on the accident not being fixed....and depending on what it looks like underneath and when you get dealer to pull all service records....decide. If not well maintained I would pass based on what you see here and that he has it up for auction. Also no pics of inside and usually if they are nice they WANT TO SHOW YOU THE LEATHER inside....I would expect more things needing to be addressed than just the slight fender damage.

I would pass unless you can get someone to put eyes on it and it gets a clean bill of health from another dealership from inspection...and then get this guy to do the 90K service as well....for that price.

At 82k mi, they couldn't have screwed up too much, mechanically speaking, as long as it has had a few oil/filter changes. At that mileage, it is at the point where the major services need to be done like: timing belt, all fluids/filters, brakes pads, maybe rotors/caliper rebuild, etc. So, IMHO, I wouldn't be too worried about the care its received, if you will be getting it back to baseline (as long as there is nothing obviously wrong). Although, I do wonder why the paint is peeling on the tailgate, around the license plate area, might make me a little cautious. With Major service due, it should be a good negotiating point, a Lexus dealer would probably easily charge $1-2k+, so should be considered in the deal, IMHO.

2001 LX with 82K

I'm going to wait this one out, as I don't have time to drive to Houston and get it inspected any day soon. My ideal 100 would be a different color and without NAV, in order to facilitate an A/V system upgrade. Hard to find one that isn't optioned to the gills.

Brock - There were some interior pics, but not enough resolution to tell the condition of the driver's seat bolsters. Those usually seem to be the barometer for the overall state of the leather. Good call on the service, but that is a tough one to negotiate without being in the presence of the truck and salesperson.

Firetruck - I agree on the tailgate paint. Looks like a non-factory coverup, but why?

My main suspicion is just that if this truck were really such a gem, they would fix the issues cheaply at dealer cost and reap the markup, rather than trying to unload it as is...

Yeah, that is a bit strange but just FYI for anybody, that license plate "pan" on the LX comes off and is separate from the tailgate. I think you can buy it already painted.

Hey All,

Looking for a 100/470, but want to know the differences offered by year. Searched and came up with some info.

Slee has a comprehensive list up to 2005, but nothing more.

There are other threads that give me the LX 470 information, but nothing I can match it up with on Toyota's Used Site.

Any help would be appreciated filling the gap for the 06 and 07 100 series.

Thanks

Bought this super clean 99 for the wife a few months ago from 2nd owner. 1st owner was in Blackhawk, CA, then 2nd owner was in Walnut Creek, CA, where I bought it with ~75,000 original miles. Only work has been brakes, tune ups, and fluid changes. Clean carfax, garaged from both owners. The craziest thing is you crawl under this thing and it looks almost showroom clean.

I paid $500 over KBB "Excellent" but I think it was worth it. I think we found one of the cleanest and lowest mileage 1999's out there. And for me at least, low miles are primary...

(P.S. I've had 2 cruiser guys tell me I paid too much. To which I replied, "ok find me ANY year FJ100 with 75,000 original miles in "excellent" condition and tell me if it's more or less than what I paid.)

:D

Price of 2001 LX470 with 200,000 miles

Is $10,000 a fair price to pay? Truck is in very good condition, one owner and serviced regularly at the Lexus dealership. I looked at KBB and NADA, and it is within the recommended prices. I'm not sure how realistic NADA and KBB are nowadays. Thanks for your comments.

Price Check: 2002 w/138k

Folks-

Hoping for some guidance with respect to a rig I have my eyes on. 2002 LC Listed at the stealership for $19950. Blk w/ Tan interior, Nav, Solid Records, T-Belt, Brakes, 2 Owners, etc; however, an accident was reported via CarFax with minor damage. Clean title. I am trying to find out if the air bag was deployed.

Thing has been on the lot for a couple of months. I am in the South East, where there are not many 100's for sale, so may not have much bargaining power/alternatives.

I am thinking no more than $15k, tops-factoring in the accident. Thoughts?

2000 TLC 175K miles

What do you think of a 2000 TLC with 175K miles? Service records are unavailable, but it looks clean. I will take to a mech before purchase. Small dent in rear door, A/C is not cold, antenna ripped off, crack in the passenger side-view mirror housing. Besides that looks great. Price: $8,000.

Survey says? :hhmm:
