If you are planning on the lift anyways, my thought would be to go for option 2, as it is less expensive and has the lift incorporated. NOW, that being said, if you were looking at using different components and could talk the current owner down on option 1 due to 90K mile service, I would go with that option.

Also, if both are available for test drives, do that first before making a decision. Look for anything else that might indicate items that could sway your decision.

Hope this helps,

Jonathan

If opt 2 was lifted does that also mean it was wheeled? What does the underside look like? Personally, I'd rather have an unmolested vehicle to start with than a someone else's hack. But if the guy did a good job then it could be a good deal.

Keep in mind that the 00 adds ATRAC and VSC.

Need MUD help again

Currently looking at a 2003 LX470 with 98800 miles in Seattle with all the services done. I actually got a scan from the owner that showed in excess of $3500 for a 90K service and other misc services that was done last year.

The body is in great shape except for a couple scratches which I can live with.

Here is a link to the inspection that I had got done.

Overview

That too is very positive except for the left front shock absorber leak that can be seen in the picture below

I have heard that the shocks need to be replaced in pairs always. So that is going to cost me atleast $1000 for the two front shocks with the labor. Let me know if I am off here with how much it would cost me.

I did speak to the owner after the inspection and he will not go below $21K for the vehicle and I pay another $600 to get it shipped to MN.

What does MUD think of this deal.

I believe you are high on your shock estimate. Fronts only should not cost half that much, installed.

ATRAC sucks so you need to factor a $1000 because opt #2 needs a rear Air Locker
I disagree, whole heartedly!!! ATRAC can be great. It just depends on the type of wheeling you plan on doing.

Noob here, looking for thoughts...

Hi all... I'm brand new to this forum today.

I've been looking to get a 100 for a while now. I had an '07 FJC, but I want the real deal now.

I pulled the trigger sight-unseen on this '99 with 190k yesterday.

Toyota Landcruiser '99

Buying something I haven't personally inspected isn't usually my style, but as I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan with my state's National Guard, I didn't really have a choice. I had a friend who is pretty mechanically inclined test drive it for me, and he reports good things - drives tight and smooth, interior light wear and no rips or holes, exterior no rust.

I shot out a low-ball offer and the seller replied with $7200 which is what I ended up paying. The seller has all service records, which he will be passing along to me.

So, did I make out OK on this?

mogili222: From the photo: The steering rack looks like it might be seeping fluid, the shock is definitely blown, as you already know, and the inner CV band is leaking CV lube. The only one that would bother me would be the leaking rack...

As an owner of a former northeast/rust belt state 100 (bought mine with 69k miles) I'd just want to know where it spent its life and whether that included salt on the roads. From the three low res photos it looks fine :D

The price is right though!

Thank you for the response.

Would you be able to give me a ball park on how much it is gonna coast me to get these fixed. I am fairly new to the LC/LX scene.

Loved the rest of the truck so was thinking of pulling a trigger on this LX.

I don't think the rack seal, which is probably your culprit based upon the photo, can be replaced without removing the rack. The labor to just replace the seal might be cost prohibitive; maybe someone can chime in that has just replaced the outer seal. Otherwise you'd have to install either a new or reman steering rack ($450-ish for reman rack, $750-ish for brand new rack plus 1/2 day of labor and some miscellaneous o-rings apart of this job...this was based on when I replaced the rack on my '99 earlier this year. The LX rack maybe priced differently).

For great service and 25% off real MSRP prices be sure to call Onur (beno on MUD here) at American Toyota parts department in Albuquerque for deals on all parts for everything Toyota.

Andy,

I'm interested in this Cruiser. What would you say a fair price for it would be. the owner sent me a bunch of additional photos and the interior looks pretty clean (now).

Comments appreciated.

Jeff

Guys,

As a follow up I bought this cruiser n Friday for $20k. I had River View Toyota do a PPI and a compression check. All was well. The Toyota technician let me come into the shop while it was on the lift and check the thing out in detail.

Mechanically the only thing this trucks needs is an alignment and a new set of wiper blades. I was really disappointed with the carpet and almost walked (got back on an airplane really), and offered $20k and the seller agreed.

Overall I am very happy with the purchase.:bounce::D:D

Congrats! I'd say that is a great deal on that '03 and glad that an enthusiast picked it up!

Congrats and welcome to the club! I love that color! How many miles were on it?

The mileage when I got it was 97.8k, and then I drove it 872 miles home. I replaced the wiper blades and will get it aligned tomorrow. It passed smog and will be registered this afternoon. I'll post some pictures later; I should be working...;)

I didn't come by your place yesterday since I was a bit "cooked" after the long drive and too many vodkas and G2 with my buddy in Payson Friday night...:flipoff2:

03 price drop at first of year opinion?

I am buying another cruiser since I lost mine to :princess:. I was considering buying a LX from the sheer fact I liked its seating better and the tele steering wheel seemed to help. I have a really effed over knee, so seating position can be a real issue. I wanted any opinions if y'all think the 03's will take a drop since they will be out of financing range (general speaking) or if I should go for a 00-02 LX although the AHC crap makes me nervous.
