Thank you for the response. I need to buy very quickly and I am very confused.

I was also looking at a another Toyota LC at the below link

Cars for Sale: 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in LIBERTYVILLE, IL 60048: Sport Utility Details - 285083683 - AutoTrader.com

And here is the inspect my ride report for that LC.

Overview

I spoke to the seller and he said that the fender is not broken and he will get the non retracting antenna fixed.

He is asking $18K for the LC

Now I am not able to decide between this LC and the LX in the above link. The inspection from the dealer for the LX is excellent.

Decisions.. Decisions..

Dude! Run away from the light! :)

I turned down a very similar vehicle (year and miles) in Seattle last summer and we were down around the $22.5k range and it was at a Lexus dealer!

In fact I saw an early 2000's in Reno (that I would have paid for) with 9,000 miles on it for $22.5k. They're smoking crack at $26.5k.

And quite frankly I'm surprised that it's already bid up to $23.6k.

If you have $26k to spend, I'd be looking at an '03+

Is there really any decision there? Search some more and you can save some serious cash off that! Like cash with zero's after it!

First, don't buy in a hurry! Ever! Can you borrow a vehicle for a while? Rent one? Toyota's domestic sales volume was around 8,000 units in the years you're looking at so there's not exactly a commodity.

The 2nd one is nice, but you can do better. For example: 2000 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 4X4 LOCKERS LOADED 72K ORIGINAL MILES !!WOW!!
You could buy that one and have it shipped to you for less than the $18.5k of the 2nd one and it wouldn't be a rusty midwest truck! You could buy that and completely trick it out for the delta in price!

If you're set on an 03+ here's a data point for reference: 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser Keep in mind, that's the asking price, you could always get lower through negotiation!

I don't know how important it is to you, but on the 01 and 02's if you get them with Nav you're limited in your upgrade potential. The HVAC controls are built into the nav head so you can't upgrade. Same goes for the 03+, but their sound system appears to be better (although I have no direct experience).

Whatever you do, DO NOT spend $26k on that silly ebay truck!

BTW, try using crazedlist.org : search craigslist like a madman to do a wider search than your local craigslist.

The sound system on 03+ is not very good and you pretty much have no chance of findind one that doesn't have nav.

Thinking about buying a 98 LX - need opinions

So, I've been looking at buying an FJ80 but the other day I happen to come across a LX470. The thing has 180k on and they were asking about 12,000 for it.
Drove it around - it was super quiet and everything seemed in good shape (besides the hideous rims on it)
Looking for advice and some insight onto these cars, things to look out for with that many miles, just anything you can tell me would be helpful. Thanks

Get a carfax and take the VIN to a local lexus dealer and have them pull the service records. You need to check for the timing belt and water pump. Also regular fluid changes and I think on the 98 starter contacts were a problem.

I just got a 98 LC with 161,000 for under $8,000 so to me that is too high. Some may say different as it's a LX but other than badging/trim/etc it's still a Land Cruiser.

Do what pman suggested if you are thinking about it.

You had any problems with your 98? you have the 4.7 in that one right?
Thanks for the suggestions tho - do you guys know anything about the adjustable suspension on those?

Haven't had it long enough to have problems (knock on wood). Doing TB/WP this weekend along with a number of other things that can't hurt. Yep it's got that same 4.7 as everyone elses.

I'm always suspicious when they cut out the seat bolsters in the pictures.

Hoser - Were you referring to the post I placed above?

If so, I too was wondering about the seats, but looking closer, I noticed that it has lockers and that was not mentioned in the add, so I wonder if it was just someone who did not know how to post very well.
:meh:

Yes, I was referring to the ad in your post. If I was selling a vehicle that was in near new condition (as the seller is stating), I'd be highlighting those particular areas rather than hiding it. I saw the rear locker switch too. Nice bonus.

Agreed.

Interested in opinions on a choice between 2 LC's:

1. '99 w/ just over 100k, needs tb, bone stock, 1 owner - prob $11k

2. '00 w/ 160k, had tb @ 105k, ome med lift - $10k

Similar in condition and color, options, etc. I do like a lift (was planning on mild lift w/ bigger wheel/tire combo anyway).

Appreciate everyone's thoughts! Thanks.
