Just noticed on your site that you're talking about going non turbo. From experience I would suggest that you seriously consider having a turbo installed. Once you get to South America you will realize that there is a lot of high altitude driving, and that is no fun in a non-turbo diesel... especially I imagine pulling a truck as heavy as yours looks to be. You will be doing your engine a favour and saving it from stress in the long run.
Just make sure you do it right. I had one installed in Ecuador recently for the same reasons and I'm having a few complaints about it. I think a turbo with low boost and no increase in fueling would be a big benefit to your build... I think there's even a few guys here on mud who know what they're doing who could set it up pretty cheap for you.
