Putting any weight up high is going to increase your center of gravity. This setup that ai have is way lighter than the old setup I had on top of the Cummins 80. This one is about 120lbs lighter. I do have a HD rear swap bar which I would highly recommend and really nice suspension, which makes the handling both on an off-road much nicer. That said, on the last trip I rallied this 8100lbs cruiser hard with the tent on top and a double swag and firewood on top of tent load bars. It’s a good setup for what I like to do.

Today I swapped out the lens on 2 of the 3 Baja Designs LP9 lights in the front bumper. I have been using the ‘Driving’ lens on all of them, but wanted to see what it would be like with 2 of them in a spot beam pattern.

I went for a drive around the neighborhood tonight, and am really pleased with how much throw I now have.

This video shows, low beam headlights, then high beam headlights, then low beam, then LP9’s on.

Agreed the hd away bar made a HUGE difference on my 80. I went with the 100 series extended links but the Rubicon ate those alive. Cruiser outfitters suggested slee extended brackets and stock links.

Does the Koala have any thoughts on this?

I'm digging your build thread and am considering starting one for pebbles, I would just need to go back and document all I have done over the last 2 years.

Nice build. Definitely stealing some ideas to put on my build. I’m also interested in those sway bars. My truck probably weighs 7500lbs or more now with the duramax swap. The body roll is pretty damn impressive. Maybe the hd sway bars is what I need!

I have been running the HD rear sway bar and the extended links that @LandCruiserPhil sells. His links remove the stock mount all together. That combo has been working really well for me, but I do plan to swap out the stock front sway bar for a HD sway nay in the not too distant future.

I think this might be the largest snorkel on a 80? I don’t know if any of the aus guys sell anything this size. I wish it was 100% seamless, I fit everything best I could.

You did a nice job putting that together. Did you already have a safari snorkel the you were trying to reuse the existing cut and mounting holes? Or did you start from scratch for this build?

Yeah originally it had a knock off ebay snorkel. Which I thought looked great they just flow really bad. It would flow enough for the previous ls swap, but I knew the dmax would need a lot more air. I had a 4” I built before this one, and it seemed to be ok but still not enough.

I can sell you my old 4” snorkel if you want haha. It would be cheap…like $100, but shipping would be expensive.

That’s really nice work. I’m in same boat as Morgan. Need more air and already have a Safari snorkel hole. I will be looking at 5” now looking at yours rather than 4”

I was running a cummins panel filter in a custom housing, not running through a snorkel. Running in a group offroad in the UT desert for a few days, oftem at the back of the pack resulted in my filter clogging with dust and the vacuum created by the cummins pretzeld the filter allowing dirt to suck through the motor. Dusting the cylinders wiped the rings, in particular on cylinders 2,3 and 4. #3 being hte worst with 30% leakage during a leak down test. I plan to put a big 5" snorkel attached to an industrial earth moving equipment filter when it goes back together....painfull lesson.

Gotcha....that blows...or sucks...depends on how literal we're being haha. So, what I'm gathering is there's no good way to mesh a Safari unit with the needs of a 6bt. Unfortunate, since I have the former and want the latter. Guess I'll add custom snorkel to the swap parts list...

Yeah that’s right, the 6BT needs much more air than you can stuff through a safari snorkel.

5" dorkels (I'm keeping that one!) do exist here, but are not common. Not many here run anything bigger than an LS V8 or a Ford Barra i6 as transplants, Cummins etc aren't accessible here so we don't really need anything more than 4".

If I remember correctly, one of the TLC V8 conversions kept the safari but made a custom air box that had an additional inlet. This satisfied the need for extra air during highway/fast driving but allowed the driver to close the box off on an as-needed basis. I think that's an interesting solution but it introduces more complexity to the intake and it would be easy to forget to close the box before you, I don't know, drove through some water or whatever... Taking the time to size the snorkel correctly is probably well worth the effort in the long run.

Thats what I have at the moment. My Donaldson air filter housing has a cutout that can be covered if needed.
