And to end...a couple of pictures showing the Phantom, with a couple of close relatives. :)

And...with a freshly blacked-out DIY painted bezel. At home; dwarfing the Range Rover...with our beloved, one-eyed, but never-camera-shy Mojo Hafeez in the foreground. :)

Looks good, thanks for the update.

A quick query: at any point in time, did FJ40s ever come with a white (rather than grey-ish) instrument panel / gauge cluster?

Hi Fouad,

Yes but only in the very early years, 1962 I think, the cluster was painted the same color as the dashboard.
The speedo and gauges face plates could be either black or silver/grey.

Hi, Rudi! As always, good seeing you mate...and your timely provision of knowledge always sweetens the deal. I'm very seriously considering painting the gauge cluster and instrument panel white; which is why I was wondering if it ever came stock on the 40 series, at all. Now, I know that it has. Cheers! :)

Fabulous thread you have there. I'll pore over it in greater detail, certainly.

Hi Fouad, now that you're on the black & white color scheme.... how about renaming the Cruiser?
Penguin, Pop art, Yin Yang,........?

Rudi

Hahaha. Good idea!

When the Phantom was "supposed" to be getting an Orange paint job, "The Great Phantom Pumpkin" was mooted on these very pages. Now that it's going to stay Black & White penguin-colours, I know JUST the thing I'm going to call it: "Happy Feet"

:)

I'll second that!

Beautiful job Fouad. The whole package came together very nicely. The first thought I had when I saw your seats was Orca - The Killer Whale.

Thanks, Charles. The analogy and impressions you convey are much appreciated. :)

So...some more resolutions.

First off, I've come to the conclusion that ANY sort of paint going onto the Phantom must NEVER come out of anything other than a dollar-per-can aerosol. :) The pleasure of getting down and dirty with paint, an instrument cluster, a gauge panel, and the heater / AC, is just too much to deprive one's self of!

In line with the Killer Whale / Rockhopper Penguin theme, the innards of the Phantom got a bit of a spray job. As did the NOS windscreen stops and latches. As did the lift jack mounted on the front bumper. :D

Another investment was getting a new bezel for the front of the truck. This is a locally fabbed beauty in gleaming new sheet metal, to replace the dented/dinged old one on the car. I'm still undecided about whether to go the matte black or polar white route with the bezel. I MAY end up painting the new one white, for the simple reason that the old one's black, and when you have the liberty of choices, it's always good to ensure you have a couple of options to choose between.

Pictures!

Like I said...rattle can aerosol spray painting can be fun. So much fun, in fact...

I like that Orca moniker. I think it fits well. Looks good!
