Building a 40 series is a journey, not a destination.

You're so right, Alex. I think it's more a case of FJ40 owners kidding themselves when they say their rigs are "finished". :)

I always liked the 70 series indicators on the 40. Less vulnerable to damage there

Agreed. There's hardly a well-used, hard-wheeled FJ40 out here which has the fender-mounted lights intact. The 70 series lights are simply better-mounted, and less prone to breakage.

Some of the latest pictures. After a session getting the car washed, scrubbed and made squeaky-clean. I know...I should stop digging up this long-forgotten thread. :)

Keep it up. I really like seeing updates on this.

A while back, atltv asked me what sort of arrangements I'd made for sound in the Phantom. Sorry for the late reply, but I got around to taking pictures of the setup, only now.

The system includes a Pioneer MVH-P8300BT head unit (SD Card, USB, iPod ready, DivX capable, tuner) which has been routed through a Solid Gold amplifier to four speakers. Two speakers (Kenwood, 850 watts each) are 3 channel ones (woofer, midrange and tweeter) for extra bass...that have been fitted to a soundbox that sits below the rear seats. The other two speakers (Pioneer, 800 watts each) are 4 way speakers (additional supertweeter) which have been mounted to a soundbox which also serves as an armrest between the front seats.

The sound is certainly enough to be heard over the roar of the exhaust, and the roof mounted 'heads-up' position of the player makes for easy adjustments (although the wireless remote is easier, for this). The amplifier sits under the front driver's seat...so all in all the entire affair is quite unobtrusive. I'd intentionally opted for something that dispenses with the need for a CD / DVD player, since such devices tend to skip while negotiating harsh terrain. On the other hand the combination of the USB (I use a 32 Gigabyte one) with an SD Card (a 4 Gigabyte one) is more than enough to store all of my digital music library.

The system is also Bluetooth ready, which (with an installed additional mic) allows you to operate phones, hands-free, and use the music library from any configured bluetooth device. All of this, of course, is subject to anyone actually getting to hear you over wind noise, tyre noise, and exhaust noise. :)

Pictures. :)

Fouad, really an amazing build and tread. Love you changed the jack in white.

Am im seeing it right that the drivers side looks higher then the passenger side or is it just the bezel ?

Thanks for the kind words, mate. As for the apparent lack of equilibrium in the stance, I think it's just a bit of an optical illusion...from the way the Phantom's parked. :)

I like it....... what ever it is. We need more pictures.

It's an FJ40...well...kinda sorta. :)

Love the hood emblem, raised lettering on the rear, and folding/vintage hood Fouad.

As an armchair critic ... It needs wider rear tyres, larger bore exhaust risers .......and this engine
