I wondering how it's going as well. I'm stuck in Ottawa for a couple more days and really have nothing to do but follow threads on the forum.

Ottawa, nice place this time of year.

Im stuck in a part of Canada with dark cluds of bugs and barly any cell coverage let a lone internet. Good thing I have a good data plan ;)

Waytek makes really nice adjustable time delay relays that are not that expensive, they would be perfect for a glow timer. I put a toyota momentary switch on mine and I wish I had put a timer on them, in the winter it is a pain in the butt to explain to people how it works if they borrow the truck. It's something I regret not doing when I swapped mine.

Just like to say that I have seen this rig and watched it drive and pull away from me this evening..... Truly awesome. The sound alone as it's pulling away from a stop light makes you get a funny feeling in your pants.

Yes that is the main reason I want to do it. So my wife can jump in turn the key on wait for the light to go out and start.

I think I posted back in the fall in my thread what I had gotten to make my system, its two circuit boards. One is a temp based one that is adjustable. So when the temp threshold is met it then signals the glow timer. And that triggers the flow relay (factory Isuzu in my case).

Think about it more last night I think the timer part is manually set so if the temp sensor activated it its on for the set amount of time. Think It was adjustable from 0-60sec.

I want to design something that will work as I had mentioned yesterday where it ad's time as it gets colder. I dis test the glow plugs to make sure they work on the bench it was -7c at the time and in 25sec they where white hot.

Swap looked good, kind a pretty in fact, and sounded even better. Nice work dude...

Good luck getting everything squared away for your trip. As for taking the family in a long trip with a newly repowered rig, trust that small voice that sometimes comes from the gut. Good mileage and some miles on the odometer along with evidence from under the truck and hood should help inform your intuition. ($0.02) Bon voyage.

No real updates today. Drove another 130 miles or so. I can hear an exhaust leak before the turbo spools so that might be part of it. I'm not thrilled with the third to overdrive shift coupled with lockup. Because of my throttle cable linkage it doesn't shift into fourth until it's ready to lockup. This means I go from something like 2500-2700 rpm to 1400-1600 rpm. It's a big jump. It might get better when I get the throttle linkage worked out. Or maybe I can get the fancy valve body mod...Jeremy?

I suppose the other update is I started on my camp trailer today. Yeah it's a little nuts but I was hoping to have a tent trailer to take on the camping trip. The 130 miles today was to pick up a set of fj80 wheels and flares for the trailer plus some other goodies. I got an axle for it last week while waiting for exhaust on the truck. I'm not gonna kill myself to get it done...or do it exactly how it will be done in the long term...but it *might* be functional by Wednesday.

Hoping to get the truck into isuzu to give it a once over and do a compression check tomorrow.

Funny you should say that. I was down the street working on the trailer this evening when I heard a diesel coming. Then I thought...wow...that sounds like mine. My wife decided rather than swapping car seats she'd just take the cruiser. Pretty cool to see. Sadly I haven't showed her the ropes on the funky shifting throttle cable so she ended up switching the car seats anyways :-(. I'll have her drive on the trip some to get used to it.

Really nice of you to say that. Made my day. You'll have to stop me for a ride the next time!

Ha! Man I would have freaked. I had to give the "how to drive" lesson to my wife as well before she got the chance to learn on her own. She drove like a champ. I do get in trouble a lot for giving her "suggestions" on the way she drives.

Didn't even drive the truck today. Got this done though:

Making fold out beds and sides tomorrow. Should be a good little family camper/utility trailer I hope.

Well ready or not we are heading out. I got distracted with the trailer yesterday. The isuzu dealer ended up being too booked to look at the truck much but did a quick once over and said it seemed healthy to them. I checked some but snd bolts and put together a tool kit this morning. Greased the u joints and drive lines and we're heading out. No huge hurry and if we get 100 miles out and realize it was a bad idea we can come back :-)

Another 368 miles logged, 18.6 gallons used...19.8 MPG's :-)

I have a bit of a vibration under load from 1300-1800 rpm. It might just be that the windows are up this morning...hoping it's nothing else :-)

20 mpg is pretty righteous. Are you pulling your trailer? (I assume not, from the picture.)

A 500rpm span is too wide for it to simply be sympathetic resonance. Has the vibration always been there, did it show up gtadually, or all the sudden?

So I realized today that it actually is 20 mpg as I'm doing all my calculations without adjusting for tire size. Sweet.

Hills are ok. Does them all at 55 but it's floored. Coming home over the pass in Northern California on 5 will be interesting.

On the vibration I'm not sure if it's new or not. It was 95 yesterday when we were driving so windows were down. This morning it's nice and cool so windows up. I do t think it's really from 1300-1800. Probably more like 1600ish. It's a bummer as it happens between 48-54mph...which you are at a lot on the coast. Above 55 no issue. Maybe I'm just getting used to a diesel :-). Cruises great at 70 :-)

Uh-oh. After pulling a long pass it seemed like I was low on power and there was a strong raw diesel smell in the cab. Pulled over and the injector pump side of the engine is dripping diesel.

The front two injectors show evidence of leakage from what looks like the base of the injector. Not sure if that small a leak could bet the amount of fuel I have under the hood.

What does this mean?
