really? Man, I guesstimated way more. Between the roof, sliders, hatch, carpet, bumpers, spare, 2 feet of frame and two crossmembers, and all the other stuff Ive systematiclly removed I was guessing about 400lbs... but maybe I am a bit high. Sure feels a lot lighter.

I was surprised too, especially when you hear how top heavy SUV's are. You might be closer to 400, the rear hatch is really heavy - and the frame is REALLY heavy.

Rear of the rig is just too light for the higher spring rate of any lift coils. So I swapped out the trimmed Frankies Off Road rear coils for some OEM ones. Luckily it still sits just about level, maybe slightly high in the rear. I think when I weld in the new floor and cage it will be just right. Drove it around the block and it definitly feel smoother. Ill have to give it some time before I decide if its going to be smooth enough, or if I am going to pll the trigger on some coil-overs.

FOR coils are for sale for $100 OBO. They are trimmed to just about 2.25" of lift. Should be a perfect match for zero stinkbug with Frankie's new 2.5" progressive fronts, which last time I checked with Frankie, run $300 for the pair.

So if you want a cheap lift for your truck, just cut a few hundred pounds off of the rear, and tada, 3.5" of lift will magically appear.

I ended up taking 40" out of the springs. By my calculations that should put them at just above 2.25" of lift. Might be a bit short if you are running the 3.5's up front. It would be no problem if you wanted to come by my place and swap the springs in to see if they work before you commit to buying them. We can discuss.

It's not going to be "done" for a long time. Realistically, it's never really done. Ill try to get some pics up of the current condition. It is a whole different truck... hint: one less white 80 on the road.

Just thought I would post a couple shots of how the 80 currently sits. You can see I decided there were too many white 80's in this world. I went with a satin black since it cleans up easily, and is easy to touch up. Plus, black is my favorite color. I am planning on leaving the roof white to keep cabin temps down a bit. Debating on whether i want to leave the hood and cowl white as well? I kinda like the two tone look, its different. Mirrors will be black. I got clear corners as well I just left them off while I am tinkering around with how to get this snorkel installed.

I was thinking about that. I am contemplating adding a good size cowl to the hood, and painting it to match the body.

Beat me to it. I think it would look perfect with the higher center part of the hood painted satin black and white around it with the white roof. All functional as well. You've got cajones my friend.

please do not put a cowl on the hood your truck is turning out awesome. paint the center black as someone suggested. i might would leave it like it is and throw a huge "teq" on the hood in satin and be done with it.

i had a white cl type s back in the day that had a carbon fiber hood and trunk and i painted the roof and wheels black too and it really set it off. im really liking what you are doing with your cruiser.

in the pic from the rear your truck looks absolutely perfect. you will enjoy the departure...i do on my hilux

Here is a link to a guy over on TTORA that did a mean chop on a 3rd gen 4runner. Here is a link to his bed and tailgate. He also chopped up the hood to clear a "skid" for his supercharger, you might go something like it, I think the hood/bed are on page 23 just in case I got the link copied wrong

That thread is awesome! I only wish i had access to some of the tools he does. I have so many ideas, but I just dont have the equipment or skills to pull them off. I am still working on the rear end. I will hopefully have the new floor in by next weekend. Then I am going to try and clean up the inside panels a bit. I also had a chance to flex it out at a trail near my buddies house. I am rubbing all over. So I need to decide if I am going to bring it back up an inch or two, or do some more surgery.
