I like rear bed, gives you some storage area! If you go with the above option then why even keep that rear window partat all. Either way you are documenting what I will be doing to mine eventually!

Yeah, I just thought it looked kinda different. Im not going to do whats above. However, I am going to ditch a large chunk of the bed. Im building a roof rack to make up for the storage. Iget one of those roof pod things if I need to pack a lot of stuff up there for a trip. I also have a hitch rack for snowboards/bikes/ etc... Im not too worried about storage.

My thought on how I want to do it on mine is to put a drawer system in bed and enclose it or not, doesn't matter really, Then make a rack on top of bed, not on roof, keeps center gravity lower and gives you storage, I even thought a rtt on bed would be cool! I know you want to keep your weight low, so these just some ideas.

Either way man, great build, i have been thinking 37s but your truck sealed the deal, my duratracs going up for sale soon! Looking forward to more pics!

This is coming along nicely. Any thread where an 80 gets the chop-chop is always a crowd pleaser. Like others here, chopping mine has been something I've wanted to do for a while. I'm sure you were the same but you finally bit the bullet and comitted to it.

Love your work and ideas, keep it coming!!!

Bye bye big booty.

I spent a great deal of time today cutting, measuring and cutting some more. Most guys that have bobbed have managed to lose about 6". I think I have figured out a way to lose about 3" more than that, keep the tailgate, and lights, and still not have to mess with the gas door. We will see if it works. If i cant pull it off, plan B is to build my own rear end and tailgate, and add some led lights.

BTW. If you have never chopped up a truck you are missing out. Its fun as H E double hockey sticks.

I believe this is the MOST you can bob an 80 and still retain the factory fuel door, lights, and tailgate. I ended up taking out about 9" ... I had to do some Tetris cutting to make the interior parts fit. Next step is to clean up the seam. Then I will tackle building the new interior floor and side panels.

Excellent progress, keep up the good documentation.

BTW, got the the speaker bracket.. thanks

Thanks guys.. However, the pictures do a good job of hiding all the imperfections. I am still learning to weld, and all the cuts have been made with a harbor freight angle grinder, so its not "pretty." But that's what a flapper wheel and bondo are for, haha. Ill try t get it looking decent, but I'm not too concerned with looks. I just want a truck I can beat on, and not have to worry about getting hit by shopping carts at Costco. Still saving up for a tube bender. Never worked with tube, so that should be interesting. Ill be posting up a bunch of misc. parts I have no more use for. So keep an eye out if you are looking for anything.

Yep, rear cross-member is going back in as soon as I have time. I am using a licoln 120v welder. MIG for the sheetmetal stuff, and Flux-core for the frame welding.

Here is the misc. parts I have no more use for. I can get better pictures of any of the parts you may be interested in. If you see anything you want PM me and we can work out a price.

Thing on top is the carpet for the tailgate, couldn't fit it all in the picture. And the jack is for sale too:
