While I wait on the spacer to arrive, I decided to get back to the engine. I got new head bolts (thanks @Racer65) and upon inspection are slightly longer (old on left, new on right), will this matter? Additionally, it appears the washer is captured, am I correct? And lastly, the diagrams I’ve looked at don’t show any lock washers, is that correct?

The extra thread length makes me less nervous about bottoming out than it does about achieving false torque on dirty threads in the block that are below the depth of your old head bolts.

There have been two occasions where I have discovered this to be a significant issue.

Thanks Mark, I chased the threads prior to setting the head back on, but to be safe, pulled it back off, marked my tap to insure it was the full thread depth, and re-chased them.

Head bolts in and torqued to 90 ft lbs. Unfortunately, the Dupli-color high temp engine paint I used chipped when I torqued the bolts down. I guess I’ll just mask everything else off an paint around the bolts, ugh…

This advice is golden. Bookmarked.

Almost finished with parking brake, but missing a piece. Anyone know where I could source just this?

Form follows function. A washer with sufficient span to secure the shoes, but not interfere with the springs would perform the function. Perhaps two washers, same I.D. but one of fender washer span, and one standard would accomplish the task.

No pic to offer at the moment. But I can tell you it’s a small aluminum cap, like a thimble, with I light duty spring which fits inside it and helps keep the two halves pushed out against the rocker shafts.

Thank you Mark, I found the thimble, need to spring clean the garage.

New challenge, the bolts spreadsheet and the bolts I got from Specter call for 10M x 1.25 for the thermostat housing to block. The bolts didn’t fit. A 9M x 1.25 was tight. Do I re-thread these with a 10M x 1.25 tap?

Careful! It may be a 10x1.50 if its an F135. Im not going back through your whole thread to 'discover' this.

Thanks Mark, it is a an F135. Going to give you a call tomorrow for some other stuff and hopefully you have a couple of those bolts too. I really appreciate you following my thread and all your help!
